Subject: RE: I'm back From: Cluin Date: 04 Feb 03 - 03:13 PM Hmmm... haven't seen too many Scottish homesick songs pining for the ice and snow of "the auld country". Nor any Canadian ones, for that matter. Smells like another songwriting exercise. Where's my rhyming dictionary?.... |

Subject: RE: I'm back From: Cluin Date: 05 Feb 03 - 01:58 PM Gene MacLellan's song "Snowbird"? The one recorded by Anne Murray? What Canadian over the age of 30 doesn't remember it? But it had the lyrics: ...Spread your tiny wings and fly away And take the snow back with you Where it came from on that day... and ...So little snowbird take me with you when you go To that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow... Still, not really a "homesick for the ice and snow" song, izzit? And "Snowbirds" are what we call retired Canadians who winter in Florida. (that's where our fiddler is for the month of February). |
