Subject: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Sorcha Date: 05 Feb 03 - 02:29 PM I don't see this as either spam or BS, but if a Clone needs to delete it that is fine with me. Breast Cancer Stamps We need those of you who are great at forwarding on info with your e-mail network. Please read this and pass it on. Peace and good health. It would be wonderful if 2003 were the year a cure for breast cancer was found! This is one note I'll gladly pass on. The notion that we could raise $35 million by buying a book of stamps is powerful! As you may be aware, the US Postal Service recently released its new "Fund the Cure" stamp to help fund breast cancer research. The stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland. It is important that we take a stand against this disease that kills and maims so many of our mothers, sisters, friends. Instead of the normal $.37 for a stamp, this one costs $.45. The additional $.08 will go to breast cancer research. A "normal" book costs $7.40, this is $9.00. It takes a minute at the Post Office and means so much. If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional $35,000,000 for this vital research. Just as important as the money is our support. What a statement it would make if the stamp outsold the lottery this week. What a statement it would make that we care. I urge you to do two things TODAY: 1. Go out and purchase some of these stamps. 2. E-mail your friends to do the same. Many of us know women and their families whose lives are turned upside-down by breast cancer. It takes so little to do so much in this drive. We can all afford the $ 1.60. Please help & pass it on |
Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Ebbie Date: 05 Feb 03 - 04:56 PM I'm on my second book of these stamps, and will buy more. You're right, we can all afford the extra pennies- frankly, I had even forgotten that it cost more than the run of the mill stamp. Shows how long the extra expenditure stays in one's mind. I like the fact that not only does the extra money go toward research but the stamp reminds everyone of the cause itself. I even use them for utility bill payments. |
Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Murph10566 Date: 05 Feb 03 - 05:08 PM I'm a big believer in these stamps, Sorcha - I've been using them since they first came out: " Fund the Fight / Find a Cure !" Here's a related breast cancer site: http://www.lifetimetv.com/reallife/bc/pledges/bc_mast_pledge.html I also take care to purchase the 'Heroes' issue stamps - mere pennies more, as Ebbie points out - but we all know how those pennies can stack up ! Stay well, M. |
Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Bobert Date: 05 Feb 03 - 10:49 PM I bought to cards of them today. I thought that the check I wrote was more than usual but I had one certified letter in there so I didn't give it another thought until I read this thread. Think I go buy a couple more cards tomorrow. Breast cancer is some bad. bad stuff. I buried my wife Judy 5 years ago this past October 2nd. She was diagnose 9 months after we were married. She had *inflmatory* breast cancer, had a lumpectomy, a mascetomy, the full range of chemo (catoxin, taxol, and the andria mio____ one). Had every bad side effect. Platlet counts dropped. Gave herself injctions for this and that and after 17 months, the *damned* stuff took her. So, yeah, Catfolk. Go out and buy stamps. This is a terrible disease. Absolutely terrible... Bobert |
Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Sorcha Date: 05 Feb 03 - 10:53 PM Thanks friends, for this response. Should I do the "Fwd" thing with e mail???? I just never know........and I will be buying these stamps in the future. I didn't know about them before. |
Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: Walking Eagle Date: 05 Feb 03 - 11:22 PM I buy them myself, being a 12 year survivor who has had many recurrances. Having one now as a matter of fact. The Cat's Meow has a survivor tree with a mother and child flying a kite with the pink ribbon on it. The kite is stuck in the tree - - symbolic hmmm? The stamp is on the back with a little info beside it. These are sold in a lot of hospital gift shops. |

Subject: RE: Non Music US Breast Cancer Stamp From: SINSULL Date: 10 Mar 03 - 04:49 PM From a friend: Please Help Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know. click here: http://www.thebreastcancersite.com AGAIN, PLEASE TELL 10 FRIENDS TO TELL 10 TODAY |

(And my wife had thyroid cancer at 17, and you'd better BELIEVE that she believes in mammograms and pap tests!) I'm got a ton of letters to send and have to get stamps...and I can deduct the cost of them, too! Cool! |
