Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Bernard Date: 06 Apr 03 - 02:25 PM Late breaking news... Pauline tells me that Jez Lowe won't be appearing at Extravaganza 5 after all, as he's double booked. He is in America, so we couldn't contact him, but his partner advised us to book someone else... You can bet the other gig pays better... miaow... Anyway, we are trying for Martyn Wyndham-Read - any suggestions in case we are unsuccessful? BTW... Thread Jumper Les had a posting on this thread which seems to have disappeared... he has started his own thread, so why not visit it?! Good on yer, Les!! |

Would be good if The Open Door was visited by more people--lovely friendly folk and lots of hugs and kisses--not sure whether I go for the music or those!!! Yep--thinking about it--definately the hugs :0) Diz Diz |

Take care and lots of love..........Harry and Sara.xxx |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: GUEST,Zany Mouse Date: 29 Mar 03 - 02:21 PM Sorry to be so late in adding my congratulations and thanks to all of you for doing such a sterling job. Thoroughly enjoyable and I am looking forward to the next one. Thanks also for making two strangers in town so welcome. Sadly, a day or two after returning home I went into hospital and am only out on 'weekend leave' so I haven't been able to say thanks before. The memories of a great weekend kept me going though! Next time we may be the unproud owners of a camper van. Do you know of anywhere to park it? Another query: I noticed that the pub was up for sale. Is a sale going to affect things? ZM |

Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: John Routledge Date: 24 Mar 03 - 03:33 PM A very enjoyable first class day on Sunday The guests contrasted beautifully and there were many many highspots in the singarounds. Harvey Andrews was the final guest and it was the first time I had seen him give a full performance as opposed to a "Meet the Artist" type of event. His songs really are very moving and thought provoking in equal measure. Great performance Harvey Congrats to all involved in the Production Roll on V |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Yvonne Date: 24 Mar 03 - 03:29 PM Yes--well done, Harry. Without you Bernard would not have gone and without Bernard going Helen and I would not have known about it. Lovely to meet both Hilary and Cllr--hope the consolation of having John and John staying in the same pub helped it to seem a little less 'dire'!! :0) Harry, you told me Spiers and Bowden were good but I never realised how good they would be--absolutely wonderful--made the day for Helen and I. The singing was as superb as ever--- Yvonne |

Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: My guru always said Date: 24 Mar 03 - 12:42 PM Bernard Dear: I was particularly impressed with the organisation of this event - hat's off to you, Pauline & all others behind the scenes :-) Thanks for the piccies link! I'll definitely be casting around for alternative accomodation - will shout for any suggestions when you raise the new thread for Extravaganza 5. The Bull's Head would be ideal if the landlords could be persuaded - fall out of bed into a sing - excellent!!!!! What warm & friendly Folks you are up in Manchester..... |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Bernard Date: 24 Mar 03 - 12:30 PM The look on Harvey's face was a picture when it dawned on him how many 'catters were there - I made it thirteen, including Harvey. In a few days time I hope to make the rest of the photographs available; in the meantime, you can see some of them by clicking the link. I'm sure with a bit of planning we could organise accommodation a little better next time. It's just a shame my great big house is such a tip... maybe I could clear enough space for four or so... don't hold yer breath, though!! The daft thing is there are rooms at the Bull's Head itself, but the owners aren't making use of them. From our point of view it was really good to see so many new faces. We have a nucleus of around fifteen or so regulars, plus others who visit occasionally. We had thirty or more in the room most of the time, so we are approaching the time when the Extravaganza may well be self-financing! |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Harry Basnett Date: 24 Mar 03 - 10:24 AM Cheers, Hilary...I'm really glad you enjoyed yourself and it was lovely to see and hear you... Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Bernard Date: 20 Mar 03 - 07:21 PM Wa-hey-hey! We've made it to 'big thread' status!! An omen, possibly?! Quite a few Railway regulars will be there! This will be our biggest yet! |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Bernard Date: 20 Mar 03 - 02:26 PM We usually have a 'per guest' arrangement, but Pauline or John would make that decision. I suppose I'm saying 'yes'! Better to get there early, though! It's more fun that way! If you need directions you'll find them on our website (see above for the link). Everyone who has been to an Open Door Extravaganza, be they guests or 'punters', has commented on the warm, friendly atmosphere - in fact, Dave Jones (of North West Federation fame, far too big to have been in the Monkees!) was completely bowled over at our last Extravaganza by the way we have our guests and singarounds in the same room, which results in everyone mingling socially rather than being segregated! All our usual regulars expect to be there - Archie Tawney, Brian (the Pub Prop Man) and his wife, Cath, Maggie, Steve, Phil, Bob, Iain, Harry (Harryoldham), Sara, Pauline, John and me. We also expect to see others who visit less often such as Norman, Graham, Yvonne (Diz), Helen (HelenJ), John Routledge... erm, ever noticed? Once you start a list like this you start to panic because you just know you're going to miss someone out, and they'll get upset and take the huff!! Ho hum! So... be there! Or be somewhere else...! |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: GUEST,noddy Date: 20 Mar 03 - 12:05 PM Oh meant to ask .What happens if I turn up late. Is there a half day ticket |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: GUEST,noddy Date: 20 Mar 03 - 12:03 PM It is annoying .I have been wanting to see Bob Fox for some time and every time something gets in the way. |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Harry Basnett Date: 19 Mar 03 - 08:31 PM Well that's clear enough........ |
Subject: RE: Manchester Extravaganza 4 From: Bernard Date: 19 Mar 03 - 01:48 PM I'm aiming to be there around noon to start shifting furniture, changing lightbulbs and so on, though we hope to get underway with the first singaround at about 1:30pm - earlier if enough turn up! We expect to finish around 11:30pm each day, so there's value for money - a pound an hour on a weekend ticket! The way the singarounds work is each person gets one song, and can either stay seated where they are, stand up, or go to the 'front'. We write floor singers' names on a list as they arrive, which becomes the running order for the singaround. It's much fairer that way. When it's time for a guest to do their first set, the singaround stops, to continue where we left off after a short break when the set is over. After the guest's second set we have a longer break to allow guests to sort out their gear... then we carry on singing until the next guest is ready to start. If you intend to sing, make sure either myself or Pauline has you listed! I will be running the singarounds, as Pauline has enough to do selling raffle tickets and looking after the guests! John will have enough to do keeping Pauline's beer coming! |
