The old sod kept that a secret from me at least despite being a regular at the Brewey Tap.So IF you get one I'm not on it.I will have to see about picking one up next time I am down to Brentford.

I used to go to the Swan & Sugar Loaf, and listen to Benbow so long ago it's almost prehistoric. Didn't know the old bugger was still alive, must be nearly as old as me by now, or maybe he's as old as Diz Disley!! ¦~]> *BG*

From recollection both are 71yrs old. He has been working, certainly never departed. Doesn't enjoy travelling though which is a shame of a man of that callibre. Steve plays all kinds of music and has done long before all these "World Music" people came along. Oh well buy a copy of the c.d and reminise just how good a talent he is. I am listening to my copy as I write this and I am just off to see him.
With regards.
Pete.

Yes, I'll have to get down to the Brewery Tap and buy a copy - it's a great little pub selling Fuller's beer - including Chiswick bitter.

I can remember that in his "Swan and Sugarloaf" (South Croydon) days Steve was known as "The English Burl Ives".

Steve never minded travelling if he had a paying "fare" in his black cab.

Delighted to hear this is now available! I've been a Benbow fan ever since 1963, when my college roommate brought back a copy of his "Admiral Benbow" album from England. Still one of my all-time favorite albums.

I've just sent off an inquiry to the distributor asking about the cost of shipping to the US. I'm looking forward to hearing the CD -- I sure wish I could join you guys at the Brewery Tap and hear him in person!

Cheers, Nancy

well, what can I say a brilliant c.d! I can highly recommend this. A very well presented c.d that everyone should listen to!! Tracks like "The Threshing Machine" get a very good working. Keep up the good work Steve.

The comment about "donkey's years" is rather appropriate - Steve used to run a sort of refuge for donkys, I don't know if he still does.

Dave, Steve does still keep: two donkeys, a shetland pony and multiple goats aswell as chickens in the garden and a bull mastiff!! A truely unique character!

Never had the pleasure of hearing Steve "live" but I bought a vinyl album, back in 1960 or thereabouts in London, called "I TRAVEL THE WORLD" an d brought it back here to Ireland with me, I still have it and it still sounds smashin'. I believe I first heard him on the old BBC Light Programme in the 50s. Did he present a programme of his own at some time?? I can just remember hearing him singing and introducing his songs.

Ben, Steve had a programme of his own on Radio luxumbourg. Had a t.v series called Plectrum as well as "Muses with Milligan." The list probably is larger than those but He hasn't told me. There are very extensive Biography's on google. If you type in Steve Benbow guitar then you will probably be as amazed as I was at the sheer amount of stuff on there.
Steve has told me he worked for Anglia T.V as well as doing "Guitar club", "Saturday skiffle club" and "Easy Beat." That is as well as doing the stuff for the beeb! And that is as extensive as my knowledge gets I am afraid!
Any questions or any comments please feel free to send me a mail.
    Best wishes.
       Pete.

Ben, I have to say actually "I Travel The world" is also one of my favourite albums of Steve's. A good mix of tunes well presented. That title track was one Steve wrote for either a radio show or a T.V show of his. Did you ever hear "Journey into the sun"? That album is Steve in full flight. A wonderful mix of songs from around the world long before the term "World music" ever was invented. Think that album was about 1966ish.
