Clinton is one helluva lot nicer than he occasionally comes across. And George is a thoughtful, kind person. At times, we all think other people have their heads up their arse. (Not us though, OTHER people.)

And as for Chongo, I am still tryin' to find out if he's a fookin' ape or chimp. Yes, I know his name is Chongo CHIMP, but that don't mean squat. My good friend Alex Anaconda isn't. Nor is Gregory Gopher. OK, so I made that stuff up, but it coulda been true and who'd know? Anyway, I have to catch an elevator. I'm hoping for the crosstown. Later.

Egzackly, Guest. He's just like you and me in that respect. ;-) It's so much easier to sound off to a keyboard than it is to sound off to another living human being face-to-face. Kind of like driving...ever noticed how most people act toward other people when they're isolated in that little safety bubble called a car?

Then there's Catspaw49. On this forum he acts like a total buffoon, with all the fart jokes and dumb stuff. I hear that in private he's a very polite, well-spoken, and likeable man. A true gentleman.

The fact is, this cyberlife allows people to let their hair down, engage in all kinds of bizarre behaviour, and live out their Walter Mitty type fantasies as they please. If I were you, I wouldn't take it all that seriously.

Little Hawk:

You are so right about people acting differently on the Net. There's a guy named George Coventry in Orillia. When you talk to him in person, he's this shy, nice guy. On the Net he's a pompous asshole who thinks he's smarter than everyone else knows everything about everything. What a jackass.

I've always figured Clinton was most likely a great musical performer...and probably a lot of fun to talk to in person as well. I've no idea why he chooses to be so abrasive on the Net much of the time, but I've noticed that many people act quite differently online to what they do in person.

Can I say that I solidly agree with Big Mick's description (first paragraph Feb 9/03). Having known Clinton since those nasty teenage years, I can say he is a fascinating man and an awesome performer. Whether in a pub or around a campfire in the rain. I wish I could hear you again some time. Next time I'm in Windsor. . . Congrats on the wedding.

XO;)

Hey, Mick, you and Rick have still got the stamina, eh? That's the reason I gave up the Rockabilly: Carrying the Vibrolux to the truck at 2:00am and getting home much later. Glad to hear you guys can still pull it off. Maybe there's a few late nights in these tired bones yet. Wish I could have been with you.

I wish I could get up that way to hear Clinton as well. cheers, Chance

I know the feeling, Rick. I got home at 6:00 am. Took me almost an hour to get across the border. Then I ran into weather and ended up driving 40 miles an hour on a road that I normally travel 78 miles an hour on. The next day I found meself thinking the same thing..........it wasn't that long ago I would have slept for 2 hours and then went skiing...........LOL.

Sorry we couldn't make it Clinton. Since I was the 'drivin' one, I had to get us on the road as soon as the concert ended. Five hours was a long haul after a workshop and a concert. Didn't get in until after five am.

Ahhh back in my youth, I wouldn't have even noticed the time!

Cheers

Rick and heather

Now, jeez, Mick -- I coulda told you all of that if you'd just asked.

I think the one thing you left out in your description of him when he's in his "opinionated, self-righteous asshole" mode is that he's usually a funny and entertaining opinionated, self-righteous asshole.

Thoroughly enjoyed meeting you last night; I'd love to continue the discussion some time. Any time you can get to Windsor, give me a call and we can tip a few.

cheers,

david

Hmm. I had a hunch that's the way he is. Too bad I'm so far away (Seattle). I'd like to hear him.

I probably would never make comments about Clinton's performances on here.

I can hear him, and do, many times a month. We IM chat almost daily, and meet for pints often enough to make the makers of Guinness and Alexander Keith's comfortably well off.

I post this only because I care. Or I want to embarass the hell out of Clinton, one or the other. ;)

He has a great voice, and like Mick said, he plays with his heart.

His style, nor his attitude, changes depending on the crowd of the venue, or lack thereof. Last night, again as Mick said, is a restaurant that has an 'Irish' theme. The crowd that goes there, for the most part, doesn't know the difference between a shanty and a story ballad. Clinton played that room no differently than he played the Kildare house the night before, which has a more 'enlightened' crowd which enjoys the music.

To me, that is the true sign of a person who loves what they are doing. If you ever find yourself in the Windsor area, come on out and give a listen.

Clinton keeps an updated list of gigs on his website.

I would have come by after the concert too, but I promised my friend I wouldn't keep him out too late. He had to work today. But you really should catch Clinton at Kildare House-- much more congenial atmosphere. And (most of the time) the audience is more appreciative.

I finally got to meet and hear Clinton Hammond last night. I once described Clinton as a Mudcatter as something like wonderfully knowledgeable about half the time, an opinionated, self righteous asshole the other half of the time, and at all times, fascinating and someone I would like to meet. Let me add to that. He is a wonderful performer with a great voice, and a journeyman like attitude towards his work.

The venue I saw him at was one of those that will kill your desire to do this stuff. You know the place. You feel like you are one of the three people listening. Clinton never stopped playing, and he never stopped putting his heart into his music. This is the sign of a pro. His repertoire was varied, his interpretation was intense, and his arrangements were clearly his own and just different enough to be enjoyable while remaining recognizable. I enjoyed his music, and eagerly anticipate hearing him in a more respectful venue.

The conversation was pretty damn comfortable as well. I don't think I have changed my opinion of him, and I am glad. I believe we will be friends................sometimes at the top of our lungs. Great guy, wonderful performer.

Mick
