The poster on that YouTube didn't say who was doing the song, but I think it was The Isaacs.

Beautiful rendition there, leeneia. It's listed as Traditional. That gal's voice would make a bishop put his foot through a stained-glass window.

Possibly one of those Trad songs that get copyrighted by someone (witness Happy Birthday) for an arrangement.

I live in Brumley's neck of the woods, where it is strongly suspected that Brumley collected songs from naive country people and copyrighted them for himself.

This song makes me think the suspicions are right. Consider these lines:

The prettiest beds of flowers will be blooming
By the prettiest streets our eyes shall e'er behold
Where the beautiful tree of life for us is waiting
By the prettiest mansions made of purest gold

In your heart of hearts, can you really believe that was written by an adult male and a businessman? I bet it was written by a 14-year-old girl. It is so unsophisticated!

The Prettiest Flowers Will Be Blooming

Verse 1
I know there is a land of beautiful flowers
Where we will meet again when life is o'er
Where we will while away the endless hours
On heaven's bright eternal shore

Chorus 1
The prettiest beds of flowers will be blooming
By the prettiest streets our eyes shall e'er behold
Where the beautiful tree of life for us is waiting
By the prettiest mansions made of purest gold

The prettiest robes and crowns we'll all be wearing
In that city foursquare beyond this world of strife
And the prettiest songs with the angels we'll be singing
On that beautiful morning by the river of life

Verse 2
On heaven's golden strand there'll be no more dying
No chilling winds or tempest e'er will blow
It is a land of love and wondrous beauty
Where fragrant flowers ever grow

Verse 3
I want to meet you by that beautiful river
On that eternal morning in the sky
Where we will live in peace through endless ages
Where we will never say good-bye

I heard this song for the first time last year. I heard a studio version by The Isaacs and think their version is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. They have a YouTube version which is pretty, but not quite as good. I saved the studio version on my computer.

I first heard the song by Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mt. Boys in y early childhood (early 70's). He appears to have cut it with Roy Lee Centers as the lead vocal around the 1971-1973 time frame. Beautiful arrangement. Not sure what the Albert Brumley orginal sounded like (yet) but Ralph and the boys did a wonderful ole' time recording on it.
Here's a sample from amazon, who resells the CD Set/MP3s.

The Prettiest Flowers Will Be Blooming

I still own the LPs in this set ... the good stuff :)

as a trucker I've heard lots of Christian stations on the radio. I once was on hwy 220 south of Greensboro, NC and got to hear a little over half of a song and I'm not sure of the title but I'd have to say it " THE PRETTIEST FLOWERS GROW RIGHT FROM THE DIRT ". Nothing was mentioned about the song but it was beautiful to me. Has anyone out there got any information that would help me search for this song. Thanks in advance, and God bless us all.

Linda Laye recorded this for a cd which I bought at a Cracker Barrel resturant. She sings it so beautifully.

Thanks for sharing the words to this song. My mother is nearing her time to go "Home" and this song will certainly prove quite a tribute to eulogize a beautiful lady who loved her beautiful flower gardens... Thanks again...

Interesting coincidence. I'd never heard this song until two days ago Winterfest in Irving, Texas, where I bought "We Shall Meet," a gospel CD by the Mill Run Dulcimer Band. "Prettiest Flower" is one of the 22 songs included on this real nice recording of gospel songs. You can listen to a sample, though not "Prettiest Flower" at their web site. Mill Run Dulcimer Band

I lucked out, found it in The Best Of Albert E. Brumley, published by Albert E. Brumley and Sons, 1966.   That eliminates having to transcribe from the Forbes Family recording from I'll Look to Him, Rebel 1717, 1995. (That would have taken me a while) Don't think they sang it quite this way, but this is the version as written in the songbook.

THE PRETTIEST FLOWERS WILL BE BLOOMING
(Albert E. Brumley)
First published in Pilgrim's Guide, Stamps Quartet Music, Inc. 1946

I know there is a land of beautiful flowers,
Where we will meet again when life is o'er;
Where we will while away the endless hours
On heaven's bright eternal shore.

Chorus
The prettiest beds of flowers will be blooming,
By the prettiest streets our eyes shall e'er behold,
Where the beautiful tree of life for us is waiting
By the prettiest mansions made of purest gold;
The prettiest robes and crowns we'll all be wearing
In that city four-square, beyond this world of strife,
And the prettiest songs with the angels we'll be singing
On that beautiful morning by the river of life.

On heaven's golden strand there'll be no more dying,
No chilling winds or tempest e'er will blow;
It is a land of love and wondrous beauty
Where fragrant flowers ever grow.

I want to meet you by that beautiful river
On that eternal morning in the sky;
Where we will live in peace thru endless ages,
Where we will never say goodbye.

Could you tell me the info on the recording you have? Thanks.

I know one that may be it. The Prettiest Flowers Will Be Blooming - Albert E. Brumley, 1946. Let me know if this sounds like it would be the one, and I will try to find it. I have it by The Forbes Family on Rebel. (I think)

It will be several days before I'll have a chance to get to it, so if anyone else has it . . . don't wait on me!
