Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Hmmm ! Was not the "USS MAINE" destroyed by a magazine cooking off from the heat of a bunker fire - common in coal fired ships ?

Gareth:

Yes, but that is not the point. It was made into a casus belli through the manipulation of media -- at that time, the Hearst papers. The claim was invented that it had been sunk by Spanish saboteurs.

What they called a blitzkreig we call shock and awe.

They overturned a constitution with fear, scapgoating and the Reichstad fire. So have we

They found the biggest lies are most believable, so have we.
(Powell's mistake was presenting so called facts.)

etc.

The final nail in the coffin of freedom will be the expanded patriot act ammendments. Secret arrests and trials will apply to citizens who protest the same as an enmy combatent.

This bill is to be introduced right after we go to war with Iraq so no one dare commit treason and question the bill while we have "troops in the field".

The US Constitution is virtually gone my friends.

Power brokers have a constitution all their own:

Unfortunetly it flies in the face of our original contract of citizenship; the US Constitution.
.....................................................

The new Good ol boys constitution:

The bigger the lie, the more believable.

What ever is good for the Military Industrial Complex is good for the country.

Supporting faith based social programs in lieu of the dismantled welfare program will save money, and demand certain religions are deemed illegal in that they are not deserving of federal funds.

A terrified population is an obedient population.

Due process is a waste of time and money.

Control the voting machine software for a more preditable America.

Deficit spending is for the other guy to pay back after we clean out the cookie jar.

Once we get our money we can let the other guys prentend to rule ... after all we need them to blame, if nothing else.

Those who forget history will either live through dark times, or they won't live through 'em. If they got out of bed on the wrong side--or whatever, they won't live through it. If they got out on the right side--or whatever, they will live through it. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Just do your best to stay clear of the black ice---and if you lean toward the good and away from the crap, you may or may not, in the end, turn up with those who remember history. But, then again, you might bunch up with them that's forgot the history lessons. It's called life, friends,-----and it's a crap shoot. You get what you get. Kurt Vonnegut once said, "Whenever I feel the least bit self-important, I think of all the dirt that never got a chance to sit up and look around." It just don't matter. It's great to be here watching the parade.

My best wishes to you all. Let's drink a toast now, and again after we wash the shit off the fan blades too !

Art Thieme

Amos:

Like I have pointed out many times, polls do not mean one danged thing. Give me a room full of psychologists, advertising folks and a couple of used shrap used car salesmen and I'll get you a 63% favorable rating for Adolf Hitler in Isreal.

What a joke. Doug always brings them up. All I know is that my business is one of the most conservative Republican strongholds in the universe, and there are plenty of folks who are not only against the war but think Bush is a total friggin' idiot.

Like I pointed out on another thread, my wife P-Vine went to high school with a woman who is married to one of the memebers of the local Board of Supervisors. This guy is ex-military and as Republican as a June day is long, and the both of them are very much against Bush and the war. But is he going to say or do anything? Heck no.

That's my point. With the current mistrust of governemnt folks are not going to tell the truth to pollsters for fear of being friggin' atrrested. That's reality!

If we ever get another election that isn't rigger with a bunch of folks being purged from the rolls than you'll see what I'm talking about. If Bush were to run for president today against Donald Friggin' Duck, the duck would beat him 70-30.

Bobert

Bobert,...your point is? You know of a Republican who is against Bush. My wife is a Democrat who was against Clinton, and is against Gray Davis (CA Dem Gov). Does that make either of them smarter than others in their respective parties? All it means is they don't like particular leaders.----John
