Subject: RE: Chord Req: Urgent! 'Will the Circle be Unbroke From: GUEST,Gern Date: 12 Feb 03 - 02:56 PM For my tastes, which have never fared well in fashion circles, the minor chord should be omitted, as it is not part of the traditional arrangement of the Carter Family. Thus it amounts to uptown fluff, added by those who grow bored with hardcore three-chord arrangements. However, lots of folks to add the minor, and would consider this suggestion to stay on the G merely the rantings of a grumpy purist. BUT, in the first line, the C comes in at the end of the first "by and by" and the second G chord must be moved to the end of the second by and by. Second line should be changed to "[G] In the sky Lord, [D] in the [G]sky." Adjust the next verse to the same progression. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Urgent! 'Will the Circle be Unbroken'. From: Jim Colbert Date: 12 Feb 03 - 04:45 PM Didn't the Carters do it as CAN the circle be unbroken, even though it's become more familiar as "will?" Anyway, yeah, most of the Carter stuff in core form is I-IV-V or I-IV-V7 progressions... funny how when you start playing it's sometimes easy to overanalyze, y'know? jim |
