Woody Guthrie used to sing this song. Has it been recorded on Billy Brag's Mermaid Avenue with another tune? I remember how Woody sang it but can't remember more lyrics.

Anybody got 'em? Thanks.

Frank

At my window sad and lonely
(Woody Guthrie)

At my window sad and lonely,
oft times do I think of thee
Sad and lonely and I wonder
do you ever think of me?
Every day is sad and lonely
every night is sad and blue
Do you ever think of me my darling
as you sail that ocean blue?

At my window, sad and lonely,
I stand and look across the sea
I, sad and lonely,
wonder, do you ever think of me?

Will you find another sweetheart
In some far and distant land?
Sad and lonely now I wonder if
our boat will ever land?

Ships may ply the stormy ocean
planes may fly the stormy sky
Sad and lonely but remember
I will love you till I die

WORDS: Woody Guthrie 1939 - MUSIC: Jeff Tweedy

Thanks Eileen,

Could you please tell me where you got 'em? Was it from Mermaid Avenue or did you find it in a book?   Reason is, I remember   Woody singing a tune for it and wondered if others even knew it.

Thanks,

Frank

Mary, went to www.winmix.com and couldn't find any artists who did it.
I typed it in and got all kinds of irrelevant information. Can you tell me please who are some of the artists that you found who did it? Maybe I can shortcut the process?

Hi Snowy, thanks, OK I'll check that out. The melody isn't the original one though on Mermaid Avenue. Woody sang something different. I'm looking for other versions of the song as well.

Frankham..
I didn't see your question to me until this a.m.
So....I apologize for not answering you before this.
I typed in the song...in winmx.com
on the weekend and only...
came up with the Mermaid Avenue...
I did not try to type in Woody Guthrie..
usually on the weekends when lots of people
are on line I find the best luck to get the songs
that I am looking for .
Best of luck....

Mary
