I've kept out of this thread until nominations have closed, to avoid the accusations of self-promotion. It is news to me ( and Anahata ) that he enhanced Breezy's singaround sessions. I was there every time and can vouch for him never singing a note. On the other hand , he played a few thousand of them - effortlessly on melodeon and concertina. What a musician! |

Anahata gets my vote for coming to enhance the Blue Anchor song sessions and playing as both guest and floor artist at the Fantastic St Albans Friday club at the Comfort Hotel where this week its charity night in aid of M.S. Subject: RE: Mudcat 2003 Alternative British Folk Awards From: JudeL Date: 11 Mar 03 - 05:48 AM Why was there such a short lead time for nominations? I am sure thare are lots of british folkies from places other than around St Albans who would have put in a nominations for various catagories especially those of clubs and festivals. It seems a little odd to have just one catagory to cover all folk fectival from the big commercial ones such as Broadstairs to the small folk weekends such as Crediton, Miskin, or Grove, none of which had a mention. Having only just opened this thread I find I have missed the deadline. I would have placed Andy Barnes in the best drinker catagory for his ability to completely miss a camping stool by a couple of foot when trying to sit down, not spill a drop when "landing" on the floor, then carrying on drinking and singing as if that was where he intended to be all the time. And where's the catagory for folk poet? |

For Best Pub Session, the Friday night Press Room Gathering; about nineteen years old, sometimes chaotic, frequently noisy, but overall as good a mix of songs and tunes as one could wish for. Also a meeting place for Mudcatters from around the world -- Tom |
Subject: RE: Mudcat 2003 Alternative Folk Awards From: artbrooks Date: 14 Feb 03 - 09:19 AM Looking at this eagerly from the other side of the pond. I assume that it will be followed by the Guided Tour of the Mudcat Winners...and would it be appropriate to have some suggestions or self nominations for guides now, or would you prefer to wait until later? |

Subject: Mudcat 2003 Alternative Folk Awards From: IanC Date: 14 Feb 03 - 08:07 AM Mudcat 2003 Alternative British Folk Awards If the BBC can be the arbiter of good taste in folk, so can we...
To misquote the Radio 2 site. March 2003 sees the first year of the Mudcat 2003 Alternative British Folk Awards. Not a prestigious event, but one which celebrates the past year in the world of cyber-assisted folk music. A completely undemocratic and non-representational group of Mudcat members will shortly be voting to pick a winner in each of the categories below.
Nominations are welcomed under each of the following categories (if I've missed any, or you'd like to see non-music items - "best dance group", "best folk drama group" or whatever, please let me know) by next Friday (21st February). Please try to be adventurous!
