I used to sing this song years ago but have forgotten the words. I am now trying it with an acoustic bass / flute arrangement and it is working - but I need the words. Can anybody help?

I was the bass player on my Love's in Germany , and the words are

My love's in germany, send him hame, send him hame
My love's in Germany send him hame.
My love's in Germany, fighting brave for royalty,
He may ne'r his Jeannie see
Send him hame, send him hame
He may ne'r his Jeanie see send him hame

Does anyone please have the chords and lyrics to this song? If so, would you be kind enough to post them up?

Thanks

Amber

Someone with the appropriate skill (not I) could work out the chords from the sheet music, which (I hope) you can see here:

In The Popular Songs of Scotland By George Farquhar Graham, 1887.

(If you can't see it, let us know. Sometimes Google blocks some books depending on how they interpret copyright laws for whatever country you're in.)

Google apparently can't be bothered to interpret those copyright laws at all; they seem only really to care about the American 'market'. Farquhar is withheld from users in the country where the book was written and published, and where it is just as much out of copyright as it is in the USA.

However, the same book (actually, it even appears to be a copy of the same file) is available via the Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/popularsongssco00grahgoog. Increasingly, books withheld by Google from non-American users are being made available at the Archive. The same user-name recurs rather a lot, so I suspect some 'Robin Hood' activity there.

The Archive is, in terms of open access, a superior resource; but it doesn't have a full-text search, so Google's main use is in locating things in digitized texts rather than accessing them. A link to the Archive, unlike a link to Google Books, is a link that is sure to be available to all.

The Internet Archive is fine if you want to download the whole book, but I never figured out how to view a specific page without starting at the beginning of the book and advancing one page at a time.

The original words are on Wikipedia. There's a dark-bearded guy on YouTube playing the same tune -'Ye Jacobites by Name'- with just two chords.

I find it hard to pitch the Garbutt version, though.
Never noticed a chorus, Alix.

999's link is the words Garbutt sings, by the way.
