Hi

Does anybody know what has happened to the Yet Another Digital Tradtion Page http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/

I used to be able to get dulcimer tab from it but the gif images
and tab program aren't working.

Anybody know anything about it?

Lori

hi all

Thanks for your replies.

I know the page is still there but it isn't working. I was just at it trying to get more dulcimer tab.

No gifs are showing and when I try to get the dulcimer tab it doesn't work. That's my problem (:

On the main page it doesn't say anything about why it isn't working and I was wondering if anybody out there had any idea why it wasn't working.

Lori

Try asking the page's webmaster. He's the one who knows.

Hi

I can't find any reference to a webmaster and there is no e-mail contact listed anywhere.

When I go to the sniff.numachi.com there is nothing listed
and then I try adding the name of rickheit part that doesn't lead anywhere either.

I'm totally stumped.

Hi, Lori - I contacted the Webmaster long ago, and had some correspondence with him - but I don't have his e-mail any more.
I see that he has a new system of dulcimer tab notation. He may have been installing it when you tried. It's working now.

G'day Lori. I have an interest in encouraging development and use of freeware tablature programs which use abc notation.

Late last year I spent some energy trying to make ABC2TAB more user friendly for mandolin players. It was originally written for guitar and mountain dulcimer tablature and is available at http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/6390/.

With lots of help from Jon Freeman I contacted Lyle Mellick, the author, to try and fix some bugs in the mando part of the ptogram, (which he did not write) but did not spend much time looking at the dulcimer features. It probably works just fine and it's entirely possible that ABC2TAB is the backbone of the YADT dulcimer tab program.

Why is this remotely of interest to you? You can produce your own TABs at aby time without having to go online, and of course you can use songs or tunes that you obtain from other sources, or even create or modify yourself.

If you're interested in the DIY approach just PM me and I'll scrape the rust off my earlier work on this.

Regards, John

Joe, it's not working for me. I get lyrics, but no score, no tab. He may be in the process of ironing out bugs

The impression I get is that the dulcimer tab thing there is his own bit as opposed to abc2tab. I could of course be wrong though - my opinion is more feeling based than anything else.

I think it is fair to say that John In Briabane and I are very much on the same side in terms of belief in abc as a notation system, wanting to see people make use of an open standard system and free/ cheap software to help theselves, etc.

I do however worry about the bugs we found in abc2tab and that it's still not clear to me what is happening to the program at the moment.

Oh, I see what you mean. He has all the apparatus in to produce tab as a GIF according to various specifications, but the GIF doesn't appear. Now, if we could figure out how he linked to his old system of dulcimer TAB, I wonder if it's still there.

Hi guys

The main reason I liked that page is that I am a beginner dulcimer player and don't really have any musical training so it was nice to be able to get many nice songs that were tabbed out. Admittedly it didn't always work out but it mostly did.

The songs were also well suited for beginners for the most part.

I'm hoping that whoever designed the program for the dulcimer tabs can get it working again.

Lora
