Sorry, hated guest, but I don't have the research skills as you but there is an interesting Article in today's Washington Post entitled "Former Aide Dean Says Nixon Wanted Think Tank Firebombed."

It is about a plot by the Nixon administration to bomb the Brookings Institute, a Washington think tank that at the time possessed some documents that Nixon did not want them to have.

Ahhhh, heard anything about this one?

Oh, those wacky Republicans...

No. Haven't heard about that. I'll look around. The hated Nixxxon. Seems like the good ol' days now.

On the brighter side, I've isolated my sparse collection of blues recordings and will look at those later. You and I talked about Fred McDowell, etc., and I haven't listened or looked at those recordings in a while. So I dug em out and will throw some names at you. Talk about traditional music...da blooz is the American contribution, and I don't see it discussed much here.

I'll look through the 'conspiracy' sites for Nixon stuff. Gee...I wonder if there will be any? lol

You folks want to hear updated Fred McDowell, think Bonnie Raitt on slide guitar...she got a lot of her sound from McDowell.

This isn't news. Here are some excerpts from "Kissinger and Nixon in the White House" an article by Seymour Hirsch in the May, 1982 issue of The Atlantic.
… Nixon was most anxious about the Brookings Institution, a liberal think-tank in Washington to which Mort Halperin had gone after leaving Kissinger's staff. Also at Brookings was Leslie Gelb, who, many in the White House believed, was involved in the Pentagon Papers leak to the Times. At one point during the meeting, prosecution files show, Nixon and Kissinger spoke of the possibility that other top-secret documents were stored in Halperin's or Gelb's safe at Brookings, awaiting future release. "They've got the stuff over there," Nixon said. "Stuff that we can't even get out of there from the Pentagon." Kissinger responded: "Can't we send someone over there to get it back?"

No attempt was actually made by the White House to get access, legally or by other means, to the documents believed stored by Halperin and Gelb, although many plans—including a proposed fire-bombing—were discussed over the next few weeks.

… Over the next two months, there was repeated and serious talk inside the White House of a possible fire-bombing of Brookings in an effort to steal the classified papers believed to be stored there. The project eventually came to the attention of G. Gordon Liddy, the former FBI agent, and E. Howard Hunt, the former CIA operative, who had been hired, with Ehrlichman's eventual approval, to work in the Plumbers unit. In his memoirs, Liddy wrote that he and Hunt developed a plan in September to buy a used fire engine and firemen's uniforms for a squad of Cubans who would be trained in fire-fighting techniques "so their performance would be believable." Brookings would "be firebombed" with delayed-timing devices; the Cubans would respond, "hit the vault [where Nixon believed the documents were held], and get themselves out in the confusion...." The plan was rejected as being too expensive, Liddy wrote. (All of this scheming took place after Liddy, Hunt, and the Cubans had broken into the Beverly Hills office of Dr. Lewis J. Fielding, Ellsberg's psychoanalyst, in a futile effort to find Ellsberg's psychiatric records or other possibly detrimental information….

Man, oh, man...

'Axis of Inheritance'- we need a T shirt... Somebody once said that a political career is finished if the person's very name makes people laugh.

Speaking of t shirts, has anyone seen the one that goes something like 'Fighting Terrorism since 1492'? A friend on tour saw several in New Mexico worn by Native Americans.

Ebbie--yah, I cracked up when I saw that one too at a pow wow here recently.

They are a fundraiser for the Western Shoshone Defense Project, IIRC. Not sure where you get them though.

Looks like you got your info, Bobert. I forgot Liddy was on the team, so of COURSE they planned to firebomb the place.

For clarity, could I please remind y'all that "hg" is how harpgirl often signs herself.... a better abbreviation for The Hated Guest would be THG.

So...do you think she'd mind being confused with me?

Yeah...HG...harpgirl. I did look at handles a long time ago, and all my favorites were taken. So there you go.

I'll sign the whole damn thing.

And I just ran across 'The Complete Brownie McGhee', Bobert. Good stuff. Country blues.   I remember these recordings use a lot of 'washboard' for percussion. Great recordings. Columbia...Roots 'n Blues series.

Nothing new.......except I can tell that some of you weren't "Watergate Junkies."........(Spaw sheepishly admits to buying tons of books by crooks). But, paranoid fruitcake that he was, when it came to statesmanship, Bush & Bush could learn a lot from him. He had a lot of faults but I can't see him getting into this mess with either Iraq OR North Korea.

Bobert....

Or you can e-mail me at WesWilder@yahoo.com

I check that mailbox about once a week. If you want to send me a mailing address (work, home, friend or acquaintance), I could send you a copy of this:

Tape

I make dupes of this tape and others. Mostly this one, though, because the proof is so overwhelming...it's a stunner. People don't read much anymore, but everyone seems to have a VCR. So I make tapes and hand them out. I've saturated my local area with these and post one a week or so on eBay just to make people aware of the information, and I send them out to people I meet on forums. I meant to offer Little Hawk one but he seems to have disappeared (LH...if you read this, just send a mailing address to the e-mail address above and I'll put a copy of the tape in the mail to you.)

I offered a copy of this tape to this man earlier this morning. The writer of this article:

Flawed Article

I sent him the following e-mail:

Your article on terrorism is fundamentally flawed. The U.S. government carried out the Sept 11 terrorist attacks. Why do you refer to the attacks as 'intelligence failures'?

Have you seen the film '911-The Road to Tyranny'? If not, I would be glad to send you a copy. Free of charge. It contains a lot of information which may be of help to you. I'd need a mailing address.

Best wishes.

Anyway, Bobert, this video is an eye-opener, and I now pass it out the way I used to pass out audio recordings. Meant to offer you one some time back but forgot. Let me know. You too, LH.

I ship these Media Rate, and they come from Texas, so they take a while to arrive. I trash all mailing addresses as soon as I'd finished with them.

Wonders never cease! THG is out of the closet, as it were. Glad to have you here and contributing, Wes.

What boggles the mind about Nixon is that during his reign regime terms in office the Environmental Protection Agency came into being and the Clean Air Act was given teeth.

From an article at http://www.epa.gov/history/topics/epa/15c.htm, you'll find
But President Nixon made the task facing EPA's first Administrator even greater by insisting upon the importance of viewing "the environment as a whole." The President's charge to the first EPA Administrator was to treat "air pollution, water pollution and solid wastes as different forms of a single problem." The main purpose of the reorganization that gave birth to EPA was to introduce a "broad systems approach [that]...would give unique direction to our war on pollution."

Make no mistake that I was a supporter of Nixon's in any way. I was home for lunch, glued to the tube, and pleased as punch when he made his speech and left office. But these were significant events to have transpired during his years in office. I guess the image of Lake Erie on fire was enough to light a fire under the White House!

Yeah...I remember the Cuyahoga River (Burn on, big river, burn on...Randy Newman).

Around here, the people always gripe about the 'land grabbers'. Conservatives do. In the local liberal city, the city council pays pennies on the dollar for real estate to protect endangered birds and lizards, then a couple years later a new city council releases 'new findings' that show the animals aren't endangered after all. The land is turned over to developers who put up apartments and malls. Sheer scam. Over and over and over again.

I believe they're all in it together. The U.S. has been socialized under 70 years of the 'New Deal', and now all the governmental gains are being turned over to private corporations.

Go to Thomas.gov and type in s.33
Senate Bill 33. Selling off national parkland to the highest bidder, and it's just beginning.
