One of my sig-o's cats loves to chew on corn silk from the corn on the cob. When I was small, we had a dog who are corn on the cob. He would also go crazy for a chocolate covered graham cracker. He would spend hour licking the chocolate off, then eating small bites, to savor the treat. If you came up to him while we was eating this, he would gobble it down, but he loved to take his time, when left alone. The same dog also liked bread heals. One of my singing partner Margaret's cats liked to eat musk mellon.

My two dogs love chocolate ice cream, and get their share whenever we have it. I wonder who starts this dietary nonsense!
We give them our leftover vegetables (very good for them), and both beg for tomato.
Adding to JenEllen- In addition to antifreeze, many people are careless about where they put Warfarin bait and other materials used to control rodents. The stuff looks just like the food pellets for rabbits, which dogs find tasty as well. My daughter lost a dog because a neighbor put Warfarin in an accessible outdoor planter.

Belle likes the raw baby carrots, but will only eat other veggies if they're cooked. She likes steamed broccoli and cauliflower.

Some years ago I tried to start a couple of rows of asparagus. I thought I'd had total crop failure for two years in a row, before I discovered that my new puppy was gnawing them off as fast as they sprouted. Had to move before I had a chance to see what kind of crop I'd get after I put up the fence.

Our current "deviants" are the 3 cats who refuse to let me feed the tropical fish until I give them a sample of the TetraMin Tropical Fish Flakes. They'll try to crawl in the tank to lick it off the water if I don't distract them with their own little "snack."

Meant to include this in my previous posting. I wrote it here at the Mudcat a few years ago:

Montee, the Pasta Dog (tune of On Top of Spaghetti)

On top of my pasta
My dog has drooled
He cannot help it
It's his favourite food.

He'll wear a nice bib
And, sit like a prince
But if I don't hurry
He'll talk and I'll wince.

He swears like a trooper
Much worse than the kids
He'll cuss me out loudly
For he's got first dibs.

He won't eat it plain now
It has to have sauce
And, "shake cheese" parmesan
All over the top.

Then the all clear is sounded
He moves in to "kill"
Gawd save man and critter
Who doesn't know the drill.

Oh, when he is finished
The bowl is licked clean
No incriminating evidence
Will ever be seen.

Now, if you see Montee
My Pasta Dog of yore
You'll know he's in heaven
Eating pasta galore!

Our dog Sarah loves carrots and popcorn.

She also loves rabbit pellets and absolutely drives Abby, our bunny, wild when she invades the litter box. The only good thing about it, is there are no stray pellets around the house ;-)

My brother's dearly departed cat used to drag corn cobs out of the trash, drag them off like prey, snarl over them and munch away. We took to saving him a few rows of his own on a cob or two.

Our dog loves tomatoes, but only if they are cut open or are bite-size cherry ones. He will eat anything Roger eats and some of what I eat, even lettuce if it's in a taco shell with tomatoes.

Our old dog, now gone, was known as Pasta Dawg because he was so nuts for all kinds of pasta, as long as they had red sauce AND parmesan cheese. He would leave a bowl of plain pasta sitting on the floor in front of him, alternately cussing us out and telling us "I Wuf U" until we added the sauce, BUT even then it wasn't good enough, oh NO! had to put the cheese on, too! He taught the current dawg all about it, so the legacy continues, although this one uses the silent, Compelling Eyes treatment instead of being mouthy.

I run a Paintball site and when my Lab dog comes he shovels up dropped paintballs and then shits green or blue or pink or whatever the colour of the paintballs. We once had a cow who, when killed, had a 6" ball of orange bale binder twine and a pair of rubber gloves in her stomach.

Plastic bags and ribbons.....

The cat will munch on a plastic bag for hours and will also eat the ribbons right off a gift! Presents under our tree at Christmas time are typically bowless and ribbonless cause they would just get eaten anyway. The Christmas bows and ribbons do however make for some colorful kitty barf.....

" Crazy Things ways your Pets Eat"

had a cat that had a distinctive way of informing you that what was in her dish was old, not to her liking, or just boring. She would bite off a chunk, bring it into wherever you were (like the living room carpet) and slowly, gingerly, with kitty grimaces, eat it in front of you. "See what nasty stuff I have to put up with? Am I not a martyr?"

The Weims eat about anything we do as do the cats. Jaeger likes Thai food and Sissy prefers Italian. Both are nuts for bread and you don't dare leave out the butter or the cream cheese. The poor cats just try to get in anything the dogs leave, but Jaeger and Sissy don't leave much. The scrap fits in with their regular, but modifed, B.A.R.F. diet.   They each get a few ounces of yogurt a day a well. I feed alternately BARF and kibble and in that I use either Innova or PMI Exclusive.

The big thing in our house anymore is that no other animal eats without Sissy's okay!!!

Friggin' Weimies eat better than we do!.........buy they're worth it.

Well, I figgered it had something to do with that. But we didn't always eat the same kind of pizza! Must have been the cheese that gave it away. ;-)

Kim, they have noses so fine tuned it makes ours look like blunt instruments in comparison. You dog not only knew you were having pizza, she knew the ingredients in each of the toppings.

My cats have us well trained; they don't make a fuss when the food dish (dry Science Diet, their favorite) is empty. They sit quietly beside it and stare at us until we notice them. The older cat trained the new cat to do this, and sometimes it's dress right dress at the food dish.

One day I was showing the kids a trick for making friends with a dog (yeah, they know all of the cautions about strange dogs, but there are times when good dogs are a bit shy of new people). You rub the end of your finger in your ear to get a concentrated dose of your scent, and the dog will invariably take an interested sniff of your hand and decide if they know enough about you to be friends. One of the kids tried it on one of the cats--who promptly licked off the end of the finger. He thinks it's a real treat, that little hit of earwax.

Well, Mister's granny did share everything with her dog, and he lived to be 15... but I want the cookies for myself. ;-)

Several of the pet stores now sell snacks that humans and their pets can share. I have just seen them in passing and haven't really checked it out thoroughly, but it could be fun.

I can't believe I forgot to mention the pizza crusts. Pizza crust was the only thing Zenith (who went to doggy Heaven last November) would actually sit and bark for. How she knew we were eating pizza, I have no idea, but she would sit there and wag, and when Mister left the crusts on his plate, she would bark. Hey! Gimme those!

Needless to say, the first time we had pizza after Zenith died, I sat there and bawled.

Of course, Belle caught the pizza crust bug, too. She isn't a barker, but she'll sit there and stare until you hand it over. :-)

Re: the onions/grapes/raisins/chocolates/etc? Speaking from an entirely professional point of view, it usually takes an enormous amount (compared with the animals size) to induce illness. There are a lot of things that are more toxic, such as anti-freeze, that folks should be worried about. Nothing worse than seeing folks with a big anti-freeze puddle in their driveway telling their kids not to share a cookie with the dog 'cause it might kill it.

As a person who's owned by a few critters, we share and share alike. Bridgey is a snob, and only eats cat food. Angus'll eat anything except salty foods like chips and pretzels, and Sully wants anything the dog gets. Sully returns the favour by leaving me little headless rodent corpses. (I make a fuss about how wonderful they are, but I've not actually tried one yet).

Life's too short, share the cookies.

We try to keep chocolate away from Belle but it doesn't always work. One time she got hold of two or three Hershey kisses and didn't leave anything but a few little crumbs of foil. She was none the worse for wear, though.

The cat... well, Thumper doesn't seem to care much for anything but cat food, cat treats, or tuna. Once in awhile he'll decide he wants to check out what we're eating, but not very often. And he's funny in that he won't eat from my hand. Never has. He won't take the treats unless you put them down first.

Dear departed Buddy Cat, on the other hand, could not be left alone with any edibles on the table. Many was the time Paul left a glass of milk for just a minute, only to return to see Buddy Cat with his paw in the glass.

Our cats eat everything we do. It's probably unhealthy, and they'll probably croak but they're both ten years old and have never needed a vet.

Other than their dry stuff, they just sit beside us and we hand them cheese, pork, steak, fish, barbequed this, curried that, you name it. Their favourites? Parmegian cheese and salami!

Thank god we don't have children....our "rearing skills" are non-existant!

My puppy likes (icky alert here) to let himself into the bathroom and eat whatever is in my son's training potty. Ugh...
My older dog, on the other hand, is quite the gourmet. He got into a bowl of marinated mushrooms I had on my table and gobbled them all down and licked the bowl clean.
They're both fond of carrots.

My Jack Russel loves hazelnuts in their shells which he plays with for a few minutes and then cracks them open and eats the nut. Don't know where the habit started but we have to keep a bowl full all year for the dog. He also likes raw potatoe and of course, anything we are eating.

Our dogs will eat anything I give them. Mostly raw veggies. Celery doesn't go over well, but they will suck the juice out of it and leave the strings. Had a cat once that would kill for the salty juice from green olives.

You should all know that besides chocolate, onions and grapes are also toxic to dogs.

One of my former (now sadly passed) companion ferrets used to go absolutely bonkers over CoolWhip. I'd just put a little glob on my index finger and she would drape her slinky little body along my forearm and hold on tight while she licked the fingertip dry . . . all the while with her face all scrunched up in an ecstatic expression.

I guess they don't call them omnivores for nothing.

One dog we had would do *anything* for green peas; the last one liked green grapes - he also would ASK for peanut butter - by tilting his head back and working his tongue as if he had a spoonful of it stuck to the roof of his mouth!

One of our current cats loves garlic alfredo sauce

And of course, there's the cat box...
