Something wrong here. I even tried putting a slash on the end, then I got "page cannot be found" and a suggestion to try the homepage. I did that but it wouldn't take me anywhere I wanted. Then the whole page went weird and there were continuous clicks (ah those clicks again!)and I couldn't close the window. I had to go through some steps to close windows, turn off the computer and start again, before I could get rid of it.

Loved that one, Kat!

I heard this from a friend the other day:

Bush and Powell were in a pub talking about their plans for an upcoming war. A man walked in and recognized them, then went to their table to introduce himself. The man asked about war plans. Bush said, "We're going to kill 4 million Iraqis and one blonde with big boobs." The man thought about it for a moment and asked, "Why are you going to kill a blonde with big boobs?" Bush laughed, punched Powell in and arm and said, "See, I told you no one would care about killing 4 million Iraqis."

From: Bobert
Date: 27 Feb 03 - 03:49 PM

Well, wasn't last night's television offerings interesting and quite contrasting.

One guy talking lots about the uslessness of talking and the other taking the opposite view.

Yeah, in case you missed it, Saddam offered to debate Bush live thru a satellite hookup in front of the entire world and Bush, for his part said that the game is over.

Anyone catch any of this strangely eerie night's of worth of programing?

I'll just step back now and probably won't post again on this thread sshould it breakdown into the same old, same old. I just thought it was interesting. (The Washington Post, incidently, said nothing of the Saddam interview.)

Thread Name: BS: Political Jokes - nothing serious:-)
Subject: RE: BS: Saddam and Bush on TV

Hi folks-
I watched it last night and found it very interesting. I would love to see a debate. Saddam said he wanted a debate with Bush- 1,and it never happened. He said Dan Rather could be moderator and Dan said he was busy with a lot of other things right now. Then Dan Rather was guest last night on the late show, and Bruce Willis was hosting, Dan asked Bruce if he would be moderator.(funny)
Anyway I don't think Bush has enough balls to do it, or smarts. It is a play on Saddam to look for public acceptance I suppose. None the less, it would still be something to see. Rather than war, maybe they could figure out that we are all humans trying to get by and along, in this great big(small)world.
Peace. Rustic
PS. the transcripts can be read on cbsnews.com, I also posted it on the 'Saddam has got to go' thread a couple days ago.

I used to go to this Greek resturant in Richmond, Va. and they had these real cool booths with a juke box mounted to the wall in each one. Well, as you flipped thru the selections you came to two flip cards that just said "Greek". No names. Just "Greek". I always thought that strange and wondered if there was a resturant in Greece with juske boxes that had a few flip cards that read "American"?

Well, I'm not sure what the point is here but to lump all the BS into one thread seems purdy much like the "Greek" on the juke box. It seems to trivialize some imporatnt events that are hapening around us at warp speed. These are times where we should be paying a lot of attention. Not less. Not trivializing information.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I spend a lot more time in the BS threads but that's more because, as a bluesman, there doesn't seem to be mu8ch 9interest in blues here. I have started seceral threads about blues only to have them peter out in no time at all.

But I think that there should be a little less of a *hair trigger* on doing away with BS threads. When the leaders of two nations who are standing eye ball to eye ball and on the brink of war, are on Television in the same night, I think this is historic enough to not get flushed into the generic BS pool in a metter of hours. SWuch an event is purdy danged historic and may and hopefully never occur again in out life times.

End of protest.

Bobert

Subject: ANOTHER REASON TO NOT FLY
From: katlaughing
Date: 28 Feb 03 - 12:12 PM

Now airlines are going to have the right, and exercise that right to check our bank accounts, credit reports, and other personal info on each and every passenger in an effort to keep us "safer."

Delta Airlines plans to test such info-gathering at undisclosed airports over the next few months. One can read about it here.

Bobert, I am of two minds on this. I know I was one of the ones hollering about so many conspiracy/Iraq threads and I am glad to see them consolidated, but I also agree with some of what you say, too. I think what I've just posted warrants a thread of its own, but don't feel right starting one. I think part of the problem has been people not staying on subject, (I know that is a tough one around here) but even more so, it's been a few Guests who have gone off on their own tangents even in worthy threads, making them unreadable and obnoxious.

Are we gonna take this intrusion (the airlines, etc.) to our privacy lying down? Time to support the ACLU etc.! AND, boycott the airlines.

Kat I was speaking of this thread which starts with your post dated Feb. 25.

I was not posting "anciliary" to current threads but counter to them. I was trying to point out the absurdity of discussing the "War on Terrorism" based upon the personality of a single man. Of course that point was completely lost after SRS's post. I am still not happy with her tone, personal sarcasm, anjd telling Joe what to do. I am also puzzled by the fact that Joe decided not to delete the thread. Since she, Rick Fielding and I had all spoken in favour of that course of action. Hell, I even said please.

I have some issues with the way this thing is being handled which I've expressed to Joe in a PM.

I again apologize to anyone that I may have offended and I am sorry for my apparant misinterpretation of Joes message in his anti proliferation thread.

Your life's an open comic book, Doug. What happens after all the 'dissidents' are eliminated? If you went along with the culling process, you'd HAVE to be classified as 'feeble-minded' afterwards, and they'd check back and turn up that old KISS GREATEST HITS CD you bought and that would prove their case. About your feeble-mindedness. So you'd be 'disappeared' and lose your citizenship and get deported to Pakistan. Without your gold card. Maybe you could get back to your family if you became a Paki mercenary for five bucks a day (you could earn a bit more if you put out for your barracks-mates, maybe), and eventually you might make it back home to find a big, hairy Russian quartered in your house. He'd be screwing your wife and beating your dog, or the other way around, and you could stand there and self-righteously tell him, 'Hey! My life is an open book!' And how could he argue with that?

Kat, I understand your concern, but pretty much anyone can get a look at your credit reports. If they've got the time and they think it will help, let them look. Who knows? Maybe they'll find a personal check made out to SADDAM Hussein with "for Antrax" in the memo line.

Actually, J the S, Reg Z protects others from looking at your credit without *your* permission. It's considered a crime. Now if you have filled out a credit application, that's different. But if I have TransUnion or Equifax account, which any business can get, and pull your creidit up without your written permission, ummm, ummmm, ummmm. My butt be grasses!

That's just F.Y.I.

Now, I'm not sure if Delta has you sign something somewhere that has some real small pront, but if they are pulling up one's credit without permisssion, they are violating a law, can be prosectued criminally and sued civilally.

And dat is a fac!

A little more from the article:

Transportation officials say a contractor will be picked soon to build the nationwide computer system, which will check such things as credit reports and bank account activity and compare passenger names with those on government watch lists.

They will automatically punch your name in when you check in, apparently. Your boarding pass will be coded and you will be rate green, yellow, or red. Their security people will check people's boarding passes at certain points.

More chlling, to me, is the info gathered will be held by the government. It has been stated for 50 years, however they are denying that.

This is going way to far. I remember being pissed in the 80's when we did everything by cash and we had to prove to the airline where we got the cash to buy our tickets! That was bad enough!

Assume that the government has a record of everything you've ever done that any record is made of. If you really have something to hide, you should plan as if they're already after you, and if you don't, don't worry about it.
