Subject: Information: Shoe Band From: dulcimer Date: 18 Jul 98 - 06:18 PM What is a shoe band? Where did the name come from? |
Subject: RE: Information: Shoe Band From: Bill in Alabama Date: 20 Jul 98 - 06:47 AM Dulcimer: Where did you hear/see the name? Garrison Keillor features Guy's Shoe Band on Prairie Home Companion. Supposedly, the band advertises for Guy's Shoes, one of the imaginary sponsors of the show. |
Subject: RE: Information: Shoe Band From: dulcimer Date: 20 Jul 98 - 09:40 AM Bill--That is where I first heard the reference, but I saw an ariticle in the newspaper about a Horse Shoe Band. Since'horseshoe' is one word, we thought it might be some special kind of band. But you may be correct and we just missed the original reference on Keillor's show |
Subject: RE: Information: Shoe Band From: Roger Himler Date: 20 Jul 98 - 11:57 AM Ah, horsehoes make such a pretty ring when they twirl round the stake. Could one tune a horseshoe? It seems possible. Then one only needs to tune a scale full and start your own Horseshoe Band. Just a morning fantasy. Roger in Baltimore |
