Subject: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: GUEST,Arnie Date: 06 Mar 03 - 02:58 PM I see that Lindisfarne are coming to my corner of the country in April. Has anyone seen them recently and are they still any good? |

Subject: RE: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: Mr Red Date: 06 Mar 03 - 05:07 PM I saw them in Beverley about 5 years ago and they were very good then. Good at loud folk rock, plenty of stage presence. But I enjoyed the ceilidh (Bedlam) after far better. |

Subject: RE: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: Sue M Date: 09 Mar 03 - 09:39 AM I saw Lindisfarne in Kettering recently - they're still a good band but didn't play enough of their 'classics' during the evening. A lot of the songs came from their latest album (and from their later albums) and the audience clapped at the end of each one. The audience only came alive when they played 'classics' like 'Fog on the Tyne' or 'Clear White Light'. I understand that they are playing acoustic sessions which may contain more of the 'classics'. I brought one of their later CDs which I am playing regularly so the 'new' songs become 'one of the old favourites'. I suppose that its a problem with long running groups - they want to write new songs but the fans want to hear the old favourites - perhaps a solution is to always do a mix so the fans hear the new songs but get enough of the old ones to keep them happy. |
Subject: RE: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: alanabit Date: 09 Mar 03 - 09:45 AM They lost their main songwriter Alan Hull a few years back. That knocks a big hole out of the brickwork of any band. I met 'em once and liked them both as performers and as men. I'd certainly go and have a look. |
Subject: RE: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: GUEST,Arnie Date: 09 Mar 03 - 11:31 AM Thanks all for the comments. I've now bought tickets so am looking forward to a good night - and I will be shouting for Fog on the Tyne if they forget to include it!!! Didn't know that Alan Hull was no longer in the line-up though - bit of a pity that.. Arnie |

Subject: RE: Lindisfarne - still any good? From: TheBigPinkLad Date: 10 Mar 03 - 01:21 PM A couple of their older songs are included on the Northumbria Anthology -- a 20-CD set of songs from the North East of England covering ground from the 1700s up to last year. I thought they'd called it a day when Alan died. Glad to hear they're still at it. |
