(Or why living in a border town these days SUCKS!)


O.k... so I play my regular matinee today, and even get the management to let me come in an hour early and leave an hour early so I can get over to a chums place by 6 o'clock, and we can make a "Church Basement" gig he's lined up...

And the feckin border, the bridge AND the tunnel are backed up to a near 2 hour wait! The hour (about double what it actually takes to get to his place) I had alloted myself wasn't even gonna get me all the way across...

There has GOT to be a better way...

Sorry that happened. Clinton. When something like that happens to me I figure it was to keep me from something worse...like a 10 car pileup!

Mostly all I can think of is the 200 bucks USD that just went south...

Might not be much to some, but when you make yer living off folk music...

I sympathize Clinton. I make my living off of music too. But I'm philosophical the way katlaughing is. I've been late for a few things only to realize I missed being in a horrible pileup by minutes. $200 American going south hurts though. Especially if it's an afternoon gig that I'm allowed to squeeze in before another job at night.

That really sucks. Were you able to phone and agree to cancel so you diedn't have to sit and waste gas ?

Oh, I came straight home and called my cohort on the US side... He said he would make a few quick calls and see if he could scare up someone last minute to fill in... failing that, he could very easily play it solo... The dude works a room like nobodys business...

You can walk across the Peace Bridge and I'm pretty sure you can walk across the Whirlpool Bridge, both in the Niagara Falls/Fort Erie area.

Well, you cannot walk across the Ambassidor Bridge... The closest you can do is take the 'bus' through the tunnel...

But that wouldn't get me to my buddies house the other side of 8 Mile...

And when the tunnel gets that congested I'm pretty sure the bus service just shuts down...

There's very little that drives me as nuts as being late for something and being stuck in traffic. I can't count the number of times I have felt like pulling the move that Michael Douglas pulled in that movie (Going Home?) where he was stuck on the Freeway, got out of his car and just started walking.

Good film that...
