Subject: RE: Chord Req: Is Fada Liom Uaim I From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 09 - 05:18 AM Baubul, I'll give it a try: Far from me I miss her with loneliness in each town where she used to be Together with each gentle bachelor who is getting close to booze Would you but descend on a visit beneath the tall boughs With the crack of the glass I would go for you as a woman. O Molly my first love, don't ever leave me alone Wasn't it me who was after you every single day there above in the heights? A gem you are between Irish women and open-hearted like the palm of a hand And by the oath of my mouth I will never break with you as your truthfull one. And, Molly, my dearest with golden hair refined and splendid shining So tightened elegantly with lime spurring on men raising their inspiration A sweet mouth like roses, straight eyes, modestly blue, And in the mountains she gathers nuts, it ails me without Molly close to me. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Is Fada Liom Uaim I From: michaelr Date: 28 May 05 - 01:28 AM David, are you still there? This IS one of the most gorgeous airs I've ever heard, especially as sung by Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill and produced by Donal Lunny on "No Dowry". Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Is Fada Liom Uaim I From: David Ingerson Date: 20 Mar 03 - 04:34 PM I'm hardly a scholar but I do have the song in an old book (Cnuasacht de Cheoltaí Uladh). It's so old, in fact, that I had to insert "h's" in place of the shavus! (sorry about my spelling). The text is basically the same and there are no notes as to the origin of the song but it does have the air notated. I'll see if I can put it into ABC. The immediate problem with that is the time signature: it wanders irregularly between 3/4 and 2/4. How does ABC convention deal with that? Can anyone help there? I was thinking of just eliminating the time signature completely and notating it with no bar lines. But would that render it unreadable to a computer? It just shows how inadequate our notation is to capture sean nós. Slán agus le súil go síocháin, David |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Is Fada Liom Uaim I From: michaelr Date: 16 Mar 03 - 04:39 PM Carol -- I'm only familiar with the Mairead Ni Domhnaill/Donal Lunny arrangement, which can be played with basic I - IV - V chords. I believe the recording is in C, and towards the end he sticks in some Em and Am. Hope this helps! Cheers, Michael PS: Who else has recorded this gorgeous Donegal song? |
Subject: Chord Req: Is Fada Liom Uaim I From: GUEST,Carol Shortis Date: 16 Mar 03 - 04:18 AM Urgently seeking the chords for a very beautiful song that I'd like to sing for St Pat's, I know the song well, but don't have chords to give to musicians. Any help gratefully received!! These are the lyrics: Is fada liom uaim í ar uaigneas gach baile a mbíonn sí, Is le gach ógánach suairc a ghluaisfeadh in aice na dí. Dá dtigfeása anuas ar chuairt fá bharra na gcraobh Le gairm na gcuach go ngluaisfinn leatsa mar mhnaoi. A Mhalaidh, a chéad searc, ná tréig thusa mise go brách Go bhfuil mé i do dhiaidh gach aon lá fá mhullaigh na n-ard; Is tú cruithneacht ar mhná Éireann, is tú b'fhéile dar ghlac ariamh lámh Is dar mionna mo bhéil, ní bréag a bhfuil mé is tú á rá. Is a Mhalaidh mo ró-ghrá tá an t-órfholt snoite glan réidh, Cum cailce tá ró-dheas a chuirfeadh bbród ar fhearaibh an tsaoil, Béilín meala mar na rósaí, súil mhódhmhar ghorm gan claon, Is i gcoillí ag baint chnónna, 's é mo bhrón gan Malaidh agus mé |
