Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Granada by Mario Lanza From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Mar 03 - 10:29 AM Just to quote from the record sleeve (no lyrics) on the "Readers Digest: Mario Lanza's greatest hits (vol 1)" Granada: Like The Loveliest Night of The Year, the music of the pulse pounding Granada was created by a Mexican, Augustin Lara. The song burst upon the United States in 1932, but Mario Lanza's rousing delivery twenty years later in Because You're Mine helped to make it a hit all over again. Composer-lyricist Lara, dubbed the Mexican Irving Berlin, is Latin America's most prolific and successful songwriter, even though he can neither read nor write music. The English lyrics were written by Dorothy Dodd. Nigel |

Subject: ADDPOP: Granada (Dorothy Dodd) From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Mar 03 - 09:41 PM GRANADA (Dorothy Dodd - English Lyrics) Granada, I'm falling under your spell, And if you could speak, what a fascinating tale you would tell. Of an age the world has long forgotten, Of an age that weaves a silent magic in Granada today. The dawn in the sky greets the day with a sigh for Granada. For she can remember the splendor that once was Granada. It still can be found in the hills all around as I wander along, Entranced by the beauty before me, Entranced by a land full of sunshine and flowers and song. And when day is done and the sun starts to set in Granada, I envy the blush of the snow-clad Sierra Nevada, For soon it will welcome the stars While a thousand guitars play a soft habañera. The moonlit Granada will live again, The glory of yesterday, romantic and gay. English Lyrics by Dorothy Dodd Music by Agustin Lara Copyright 1932, by Peer International Corporation source: The World's Greatest Fakebook (Warner)
