I was playing a song last night which I got from the Hereford band Blakes Three in the mid 80's. Saw them at Trowbridge Festival. (The song being The Richest Man, if that's the right title). There isn't any mention of this band on the web - anyone know waht happened to them?

Saw Martin Blake a while ago, he moved from the borders to Birmingham for a bit but I believe he is back Hereford way now and Blake's Three are still gigging down there. I'll make some enquiries.

Martin Blake is performing regularly in the Marches area - and VG he is too. I'll have a look in Broad Sheep when I get home and see if I can find out where, soon. He had been doing some great stuff with Lisa Klozenberg but I gather that has stopped for the time being.

I'm impressed with this Mudcat/Internet lark. I started off this morning wondering what had happened to Blakes Three, now by mid afternoon thanks to Brian's link and my subsequent contact, I've had 2 emails from Martin himself and he's had time to check some lyrics I sent him! Magic eh?

A new open mike session is about to start in Kington, Herefordshire, at the Burton Hotel. It's being run by Arthur Hyde (songwriter/guitarist in a new folk/rock band I have joined) and will be starting on the last Sunday in April. The reason I am putting this here is because Martin has been asked to perform at the kick off.

Well last night was the first night of the above mentioned 'open mic session' at the Burton Hotel, Kington, Herefordshire. it was really good fun. Schantieman (who travelled down from the north especially) was the star of the show for me (of course) but Martin Blake ran a brilliant 2nd! I have told him about Mudcat and he should be speaking to us shortly. He's just had a bad bout of flu and woke up yesterday with a slight paulsey in his face, but like a true trooper, he came anyway. The next open mic sesh will be the last Sunday in May. Most definately worth a visit.

Martin Blake here! I was introduced to the site last night by 'Ms. Lemon' Yes, I'm living in Hereford town, (as are the two other original members of Blake's III!!)and making a lot of music mainly on the local scene, but am not averse to travelling further afield if the price is right and there is accomodation. These days Blake's III gig only rarely, but are well worth getting out to see, but I can be seen working quite regularly in a number of different combinations, from solo, duo, trio etc., etc., to a six piece blues band. More details can be found on my website at Martin Blake's Website
Cheers!!

Shot Dogs sang at the Floor at St. Michaels village hall near Tenbury (Worcs UK) and Martin and his Blakes Three topped the bill. Absoutely brilliant. Going strong and well worth a viewing if you see them advertised anywhere.

Martin and Blakes Three are very popular in Pontardawe [gateway to the valleys ].Last year they sold out the valley folk club and were brilliant!!
I've been a fan since the late 1980s and their song Rainbow Warrior is still played at home!!

I'm running this around again cos I've just come home from a pub gig at the Bell in Leominster where Martin
was fighting off drunks and the bloody football, doing a solo gig. He was, as always, brilliant.

At least there were some people in this pub. Makes a change.

Excellent stuff, even tho some drunken guy sat by his side at one stage, poking him in the ribs!

Only Martin and Blakes Three could do a Carolan tune followed immediately by an obscure Chuck Beery song.Lovely!
