Subject: music artwork reproductions - permission From: Deni-C Date: 23 Mar 03 - 09:56 AM Does anyone know who I should apply to for permisison to reproduce old sheet music covers for use as pictures, cards etc....? I have a collection of 300-400 sheets of music, which contains Victorian and other sheet music, some of which have hand-coloured beautifully illustrated covers by the top sheet music artists of the day. Thanks D |

Subject: RE: music artwork reproductions - permission From: GUEST,Dale Date: 23 Mar 03 - 10:23 AM Duke University Information This is not exactly what you are asking, but I think you might find at least a part of what you are wanting to know at the Duke Historic American Sheet Music Site. In the FAQ for the site they make this statement: The sheet music included in this site is dated between 1850 and 1920 and to our knowledge is in the public domain, meaning that it may be copied and performed without paying royalties to the original author. However, persons wishing to perform, broadcast, or publish this material must assume all responsibility for identifying and satisfying any claimants of literary property rights or copyrights. The music is intended for personal, research, or educational use only. For these purposes, you may reproduce (print, make copies, or download) materials from this web site without prior permission, on the condition that you provide proper attribution of the source in all copies (Historic American Sheet Music Project, Duke University Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library). |
