Subject: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 25 Mar 03 - 01:20 PM I am trying to contact Meg Frost, the volunteer coordinator. My contact info is out of date and I have moved twice since the last time I worked there. Please provide what you can by either PM or to me at brettdb@yahoo.com. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: GUEST,Marc Date: 25 Mar 03 - 04:37 PM She moved, contact Craig or Rick at the seaport. They should be able to hook you up. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Mar 03 - 04:51 PM Contact Rick, and give him a HUGE e-mail hug from me. He's a gem. Second best Festival I ever played at in thirty three years. (Lunenburg has to be number one) Rick |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 26 Mar 03 - 09:43 AM To those potential Festival volunteers- I just got an e-mail back from Rick Spencer and he says: "Fear not. Meg is still in charge. The letters (invitations) are a bit late in going out, but I saw Craig working on them a few days ago and they should be there before long." Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 26 Mar 03 - 09:43 AM Thanks guys, I got some info from Mmario. I'll see what I can find out. I haven't been to Lunenburg yet so all I can say is Mystic is the best of all. I just want to get to one more Mystic festival before I leave the country. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 26 Mar 03 - 10:13 AM Charley, Would you email Rick and ask him to pass my new address along to Craig and Meg? Thanks, Brett |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: CET Date: 26 Mar 03 - 05:59 PM Could some kind soul post some information about this year's Mystic Seaport Festival, or refer me to another Mudcat thread, if one exists? Thanks CET |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: GUEST,Celtaddict Date: 26 Mar 03 - 06:44 PM CET, the Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival is the second weekend of every June. Details are on the museum web site, |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 27 Mar 03 - 08:17 AM Music Festival |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: CET Date: 27 Mar 03 - 08:41 AM Thanks CET |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 04 Apr 03 - 12:00 PM There's no reason why this thread can't also be used for news of the festival. That's why I made the thread name generic. I did get my volunteer form in the mail and I have mailed it back. I talked with Meg and she told me she has cut a deal with the Comfort Inn of Mystic. They are offering rooms for Festival goers at $99 pernight for those staying from Thursday to Sunday night. Just call and let them know why you are going to Mystic to get the deal. I am also going to open discussions with the festival organizers to see if we can pull together a Mudcat gathering on the grounds. Will there be any interest if I do that? |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 04 Apr 03 - 12:19 PM Plenty of the names I recognize here I see at the SMF. Give it a try. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 04 Apr 03 - 05:21 PM Looks like I'm on board again as a sound volunteer. What fun! Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Peter Kasin Date: 05 Apr 03 - 02:12 AM I'm interested, Naemanson, if I can get the time off of work to get out there. My supervisor will let me know soon. Chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Guy Wolff Date: 05 Apr 03 - 10:28 AM THis is about 100 miles from home for me do we get to make noise as well or mostley listen to the people hired?? It sounds like fun at any rate. Any back ground would be apreiceated. All the best , Guy |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Apr 03 - 12:10 PM Guy- There are ample opportunities for making noise at this highest order sea music festival. You can join in refrains and choruses at concerts and workshops. You can also attend the late night free-for-all sings, and lead a song if you're intrepid enough to do so. Be cautioned that leading a song requires a good set of lungs and appropriate choice of key to gain attention from other prospective song leaders. This is definitely not your "Is this my turn to sing?" song circle. It might also help if you had some buddies clearing some space for you with whirling crowbars, though I've never seen this attempted. The public late-night sessions susually take place in large open buildings such as a dance hall or the gallery restaurant. These are not the greatest singing spaces acoustically (try to place yourself with your back to a corner) but the singing/participation can be truly wonderful. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: GUEST,Winterswages Date: 05 Apr 03 - 01:15 PM Chanteyranger, I too am trying to figure out my sked. Due to complications from my health problems, insurance issues, it has become necessary for me to commute back and forth for treatment PLUS keep working to keep my insurance in line. It has been a real struggle. Sometimes I do not know which time zone I am in. I have three residences: 1. my boat 2. My aprartment & 3. my home not to mention Alta Bates treatment center ***BG Hope to be there. WW |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Guy Wolff Date: 05 Apr 03 - 05:51 PM Charley , Thanks , Singing refrains was all Im after.. Sounds like great fun. All the best and thanks for the heads up on the crow bar. Not a problem for a 220lb potter. Ya Hooy |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Apr 03 - 11:35 AM Guy- Look forward to running into you, errr, meeting you at Mystic. Maybe the Mudcatters could gather alongside the Joseph Conrad around 5 pm; that's usually a "transition" time and a quiet spot to gather, and near enough to other spots where things will be happening next. With the Conrad as a landmark, it's also a relatively easy spot to find. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: GUEST,celtaddict Date: 06 Apr 03 - 07:30 PM Which day? Every day? |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 06 Apr 03 - 07:36 PM Keep it simple...every day would be good... |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:39 PM Friday and Saturday shortly after 5 pm adjacent to the Joseph Conrad? Volunteers have a meeting that begins around 6 pm on Friday and Sunday most folks split at 5 pm. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 09 Apr 03 - 04:10 PM Whoa, guys. Hold on. I have to coordinate this with the organizers before we can start something on the grounds. I'd hate to have the Mudcat declared persona non grata. I am currently waiting for Craig to email me. I expect we will have no problem but we don't want to step on any toes. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Ron Olesko Date: 09 Apr 03 - 04:26 PM This will be my first trip to the festival and I can't wait! Any tips for a first-timer like me? |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 09 Apr 03 - 04:28 PM If a group of patrons want to meet each other at a designated public location at a designated time this has to be cleared with management????????? Now if we intended to do a shanty sing at that time I could see... |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 10 Apr 03 - 09:00 AM Mmario, I think our intention is to do some singing. We wouldn't be Mudcats if we didn't. And THAT could be something that MIGHT cause some heartburn for the organizers. Please note, I am guessing on all this. They may be happy to see it happen. I just don't want to surprise them by taking a potential audience away from something they are trying to do. Ron - The best advice I ever got for working as a volunteer at Mystic is that sleeping is a waste of time. If you can somehow go all weekend without sleep you will enjoy the experience all the better. In previous years I have managed to get through with between 8 and 12 hours sleep for the whole weekend. Of course, I end up napping in the car on the way home, to the consternation of the other drivers on the road... |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Naemanson Date: 17 Apr 03 - 08:38 AM I have been looking to organize a Mudcat session at this festival. Craig Edwards is organizing a session too. Our last messages agreed that would be good for the Mudcats to use as a get together. I will post more as I get the news. Unfortunately I will not be able to participate. I have been accepted for a job on Guam Island in the South Pacific and have to report for work on June 16. I will not be on the continent that weekend. Have a great time and please think of me when you gather. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 17 Apr 03 - 08:45 AM I was afraid you'd say that when you mentioned the job on the other thread... |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Peter Kasin Date: 09 May 03 - 09:28 PM I got the vacation time from work, and I'll be at Mystic. Yay! Congrats on the job, Naemanson, but damn the timing. I'll have to meet you another time. Any more news on the Mudcat gathering? Chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 09 May 03 - 10:22 PM What joy! Another fine voice to join the after hours singing. Norris Dale and I from Roll & Go will be doing our best as sound crew volunteers, probably working the North End Stage, but we're certainly looking forward to hearing some of the invited guests sing, and raising our voices when it's appropriate. Understand that Tom Lewis will be there, Dick Swain and Nancy Matilla, Bob Webb, Louie Killen, Georgie Sea Island Singers, Forebitter, The NexTradition, Anita Best & Pamela Morgan, The Rum Soaked Crooks, The Morgans, Ye Mariners All, Bob Walser, Danny Spooner, Jerry Bryant, Marc Bernier, Don Seneti, Tom Goux, Jacek Sulanowski, Cliff Haslem, Dan Milner, Bonnie Milner, John Roberts, and a host of others. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Wotcha Date: 10 May 03 - 09:02 AM See you there again this year before I shove off for "Old Europe" (Germany). This time my sprogs will be in tow ... Cheers, Brian |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Peter Kasin Date: 10 May 03 - 09:33 AM "The Rum Soaked Crooks"? That'll be interesting. I've never heard a sea band made up of used car salesmen. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 10 May 03 - 10:01 AM *gulp* I ain't opening my mouth around that crowd! |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 10 May 03 - 10:13 AM Chantyranger- You mean you've never heard that old hauling shanty "The Lincoln Park Pirates"? Maybe by the Festival, we'll figure out a Mudcat signal so we can gather, or school together so to speak. We're not supposed to do anything "official" so it will have to be a deep dark secret, password protected. Maybe something like "Avengers, assemble!" or maybe we should all wear piano legs (or other broken tokens) around our necks? Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 10 May 03 - 10:23 AM visitors can wear Mudcat t-shirts. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Peter Kasin Date: 10 May 03 - 11:33 PM Sounds like a sound idea. I'll wear mine, MMario. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 11 May 03 - 11:18 AM Maybe I'll make up a Mudcat fish & banjo badge like Bob Bolton and gang have been doing at the festivals in OZ. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Bill D Date: 11 May 03 - 12:47 PM We (Ferrara & I) still 'intend' to be there, if all this nasty flu-like virus is gone..(getting better everyday)..we are signed up as volunteers, but will try to be everywhere we can. Rita has a Mudcat shirt, I don't, but it won't be too hard to spot me...*grin* |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: CET Date: 11 May 03 - 03:52 PM I should know by the end of next week if my boss will let me take leave that weekend. It means 4 or 5 days as well as the weekend to allow for travelling from Ottawa. Is every available room likely to be booked by then? Edmund (with fingers crossed) |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Nancy King Date: 11 May 03 - 04:21 PM I'll be there, too! My Mudcat patch is sewn onto my "Happiness Is Singing" tote bag. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of old friends, not to mention my son! Cheers, Nancy |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Peter Kasin Date: 12 May 03 - 03:02 PM So far the Mudcat contingent is: Charley Noble Nancy King MMario Ron Olesko Wotcha Bill D Ferrara Chanteyranger possibly: Guy Wolf CET I have to believe Liam's Brother and Barry Finn will be there. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 12 May 03 - 06:33 PM That's true that Liam's Brother and Barry Finn will be there, and probably Ebarnicle and several others of the NYC South Street Seaport crew. Anglo is one of the performers. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: dick greenhaus Date: 12 May 03 - 06:34 PM Well, Susan of DT and I will both be there. If you want a mudcat Tee Shirt, or a Mudcat patch, let me know. Shirts are $15, patches are $5. |

Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 12 May 03 - 08:05 PM Dick, I have $15 burning a hole in my pocket - bring an XL for me! I am really looking forward to this! My first Mystic fest! Can't wait! Ron |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Wotcha Date: 12 May 03 - 08:56 PM Dick, I'll buy a couple of patches from you. Cheers, Brian |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: Charley Noble Date: 13 May 03 - 07:47 AM What's on the patch, Dick? Is it the mudcat jumping through the banjo head? If so, I'd like two. Cheerily, Charlie Ipcar, aka Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: karen k Date: 14 May 03 - 12:07 AM Will probably come down on Sat. Only an hour away. |
Subject: RE: Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival From: MMario Date: 28 May 03 - 10:09 PM refresh! Dick - got any 2xl t-shirts? |
