Shipwrights Shanty is our correct name, sorry for misleading you all.
Crew was added erroneously as we aint got our own ship, just having to "borrow" the Turk for the occasion.
Cheque not in post, but beer is in the wood!

PS. We had a great time and I never got sea-sick once, even after they fed us ships biscuits (complete with weevils)

It is news to us that we were on Grand Turk in Chatham, especially as we were at Lancaster Maritime Festival for the 15th year.

Did we go down well at Sun Pier? And is the cheque in the post?

Please note that The Shanty Crew have been performing, since 1976, and still are.

It seems as if we are *on* again.
The Grand Turk will be moored at Sun Pier, Chatham, and The Shanty Crew (myself, Mark Lawson + others) will be singing on board for expected (paying?) visitors over Easter.
There is a transport show at Chatham Dockyard, but as far as I know, no singing.

That looks too good to miss, both Diz and Johnny are old mates. I work only just down the road at Kingston, so will definitely try and make it - probably with Essex Girl.

April 16th.
Red lion pub
Linkfield road.
Isleworth.
West london.

AN EVENING OF MUSIC FROM JOHNNY SILVO AND DIZ DISLEY.

Johnny is back over for ten days and this is a good venue to see these two artists together. Diz is slowly retiring from the industry so this is an oppotunity NOT to be missed.
If anyone need directions send me a p.m ( straight to steve benbows protege.) and i will help the best i can.
Pete.

Brenda and I are going to Miskin too, Snuffy. We are playing at Newport F C on the thursday with Bill McKinnon so we are really looking forward to that with Miskin following on like icing on the cake as it were.
Here's hoping we can meet up with everyone at the Festival.

"I fell in love with a ...!"

Thanks, but I do already have the site bookmarked, and checked it before I opened this thread - the only entry which I found within a 100 mile radius was Gosport & Fareham.

Try looking at the Festival list on froots, go on to Google or similar type in froots and it will lead to the folk roots site, from there check the festival list , it lists many if not most festivals in the Uk together with some from Ireland and the continent

Dave

I'll be at Fareham & Gosport, and yes there are pubs with sessions, but I tend to go to the concerts, and join in the session in the main bar when I'm not in the concerts. It's one I try not to miss.

I always enjoyed this but have not been for years.

There certainly used to be lots of singing in the pubs but I would be hard pushed to remember which ones!

Cheers

Have you checked with the Admiral whether the Maidenhead crowd will be going to the Barge at Honey Street (near Marlborough)?

I thought that the event at the dockyard was happening over the Whitsun weekend. Are Flagship running something over Easter as well ?

There is something occuring at Chatham Dockyard, which by happy coincidence has its very own brewery, with me in attendance. I only have a vague idea as to what, but will post again when I find out more.

Linda has a 14 year old son, who has now decided that Folk Music is boring and that going to festivals would seriously damage his street cred. We therefore have only a limited time window to get anywhere (and back) - that's why we'd like to keep it within about 100 miles.

Gosport and Fareham looks a bit too contemporary for our tastes - are there many decent singarounds (or even pubs that we could start one in) on the fringe ?

Wigan Folk Club's 5th Annual Day of Folk will be at The Seven Stars Hotel in Wigan on Easter Monday, 21st April 2003.
Joan is the organiser and host for the day of music, and I'm sure Joan will post more information as the day draws near.
There is information on Wigan Folk Club's Website and Joan Blackburn's Folkal Point

I already know about Gosport and Fareham and of course Lancaster, but is there anything else happening over the Easter weekend this year. Linda and I are looking for an event with plenty of pub singing sessions (we'd be happy to run one ourselves if required). It can't be too far from London (< 100 miles or so), because of restrictions on our time, and we'd want somewhere to put our small caravan (a nearby caravan club or commercial site would do).

I'm sure there are other people asking similiar questions, feel free to use this thread as well.

You never know perhaps we'll end up starting a new event !
