Subject: Barbecue In Heaven From: Date: 24 Jul 98 - 10:51 AM I'm looking for a very old song. Verse is:
I'm gettin' hungry just waitin' to go. There'll be a barbecue in Heaven when I get there, Lord I hope I get to go.... I think it's Bluegrass. Gotta be from the 60s or before. Anyone? |
Subject: RE: Barbecue In Heaven From: Lin in Kansas Date: 19 May 04 - 12:06 PM Sound clip at click here and scroll down the page a bit. It's definitely bluegrass, apparently done by the Buffalo Sabres (?). Written by J. Valby. There's a "Contact Us" button on their site. Perhaps they'd be willing to share the lyrics? Lin |
Subject: RE: Barbecue In Heaven From: GUEST Date: 20 May 04 - 05:04 PM Good song, in any case. |
Subject: RE: Barbecue In Heaven From: Geoff the Duck Date: 20 May 04 - 06:05 PM No barbecue in Heaven. You've got to go "Downstairs" if you want it hot... Quack! GtD. |
Subject: RE: Barbecue In Heaven From: GUEST Date: 10 Nov 05 - 11:40 PM The song is indeed "Barbecue in Heaven" and was done by Jim Schoenfeld on his "Schony" album. It was a modest regional hit back in the 70s when he was with the Sabres. The song got a bit of airplay on then-WKBW, now WWKB, 1520 AM. The rest of the album is a bunch of rather awful covers. Your average garage band would be embarrassed. ;-) |
Subject: Lyr Add: BARBECUE IN HEAVEN (John Valby) From: Jim Dixon Date: 28 Apr 07 - 09:26 AM I found an mp3 file at the web site of The Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association. The sound quality is poor; hence a few gaps and uncertainties. The performer is Jim Schoenfeld. BARBECUE IN HEAVEN John Valby CHORUS: There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there. I'm getting hungry just waiting to go. There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there. I hope I get to go. Life's long; work's hard; kids to raise and feed; And every day I gladly pray for the Judgment Day. There'll be a crowd in the sky, the angels say. "Howdy, son! Come on in. Stick it on your grave(?)." When I was a little boy, my daddy said, "Now, son, Bury me with a ... when you put me in the ground. When I pass through the Pearly Gates and smell that pit-fire burning, Jesus cookin' barbecue ... down." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Barbecue in Heaven From: cnd Date: 19 Aug 15 - 04:15 PM Mostly correct with the lyrics, Jim, though I've still got a hole in one of your spots that neither of us can get. For anyone interested in hearing the album, you can download the songs at this link: http://vinylorphanage.com/?p=162 (and don't worry, I did. The files are safe) This is off of the first of 2 albums made by Jim Schoenfeld, *Schony. This album was mostly bluegrass/country-themed covers of songs by other artists, ranging from The Jimi Hendirx Experience's hit "All Along the Watchtower," to Jerry Lee Lewis' hit "Great Balls of Fire," to the Beatles. It only featured 2 original songs: this one, written by John Valby, and "Before," written by Schoenfeld. The album was credited only to Schoenfeld, despite Valby's role in it. Schoenfeld's second album, The Key Is Love (which was credited to Schoenfeld and Valby), consisted of only Schoenfeld-Valby originals. BARBECUE IN HEAVEN (John Valby) Yee-hah! There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I'm gettin' hungry just waitin' to go There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I hope I get to go Life's gone; work's hard; kids to raise and feed And every day I gladly pray for the Judgment Day There'll be a cloud in the sky, and the angels say "Howdy, son! Come on in. Stick it on your tray" There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I'm gettin' hungry just waitin' to go There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I hope I get to go When I was just a little boy, my daddy said, "Now, son, Bury me with a bucket's fill when you put me in the ground 'Cause when I pass through the Pearly Gates and smell that pit-fire burnin' Jesus cookin' barbecue ?unscrew all the Cokes and cown? There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I'm gettin' hungry just waitin' to go There'll be a barbecue in heaven when I get there I hope I get to go I hope I get to go A nickel's a nickel and a dime's a dime I'd sing another riff but we ain't got time! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Barbecue in Heaven From: cnd Date: 20 Feb 16 - 01:27 PM I was listening to this again the other day and I believe I have that questionable verse: When I was just a little boy, my daddy said, "Now, son, Bury me with a bucket's fill when you put me in the ground 'Cause when I pass through the Pearly Gates and smell that pit-fire burnin' Jesus cookin' barbecue I'll scrub the pork-skin down Also, instead of "cloud in the sky" in stanza 2, it's cook out in the sky" |
