Not sure how to get in touch with him I'm afraid...although I think he checks out things on Mudcat occasionally...I presume it's the same MB who did a folk programme on the old Radio Manchester and was a member of Rebec..

You might find a contact for him through BBC Radio Manchester, where he used to have a folk programme ( probably long axed from the airwaves. ) His ex-wife Maggie Billington dances with Chorlton Green Morris - they have a web site ( needs updating ) and you might find a way of contacting him through that.Or ask the same question on uk.music.folk. Other than that, I can't thank of any other way.

There used to be a Mike Billington who ran a folk club in Halesowen West Midlands in he late sixties with Bill Caddick and Dave Cartwright. I thought he was from Wolverhampton though.

He's been a guest of ours a couple of times recently on Sounds of Folk, Oldham Community Radio 99.7fm, and the programmes are available on our 'Listen Again' feature at the time of posting.

When I get home, I'll try to remember to check the dates, and post them.

Programme dates (see above): 25th October 2010 and January 17th 2011.

Cestrienne - this thread's very out of date, but it's the Mike Billington, still based in Chorlton, who was Nic Jones' and Jez Lowe's agent, as well as being a member of Rebec and Madcap, and currently Corvus (with Bill Pook).

Possibly germane to the thread:-

there was a Mike and Julia Billington folk agency back in the 1970's (I think). They were located (I think) in Astwood Bank, just outside Redditch and they advertised in Joe Smith's folk diary.

As I remember they did some gigs for Alex Campbell and maybe Derek brimstone. Certainly they did some gigs for a very good guitarist who was around at the time called Dan Fone. Dan used to travel round a bit with Alex and the last time I saw him was on telly playing with Ricky Cool and the Icebergs.

All of which tells me, that perhaps the place to look is any remainders of the Black Country folkscene - maybe Taff Thomas, who had a club in Coseley. Tim Laycock was in Magic Lantern with Taff.

You are correct about Mike and Julia- he organise gigs for Alex and Derek as well as Vin Garbutt - (long story). The last time I saw Alex was in Mike's house, I don't know the geography but I thought we were in a posh part of Wolverhampton - perhaps that's Redditch I simply don't know.

I'm the one who lived in the "posh" part of Wolverhampton.....now in the "posh" part of S.Staffs, but still near Wolves. I'd love to make contact with old friends. We're not getting any younger, and it's good to keep in touch.

I think Martin did eventually find me. I currently play with MADCAP and the duo CORVUS www.corvus.org.uk and was once a member of REBEC who are now disbanded. However, REBEC are in the process of recording an album "for old time's sake". Possible spring release. ww.rebecmusic.com
