This is just a heads up to a discussion on another thread for those who might not have been attracted by its title: Accompanying another musician has been revived from last year and is pursuing further issues of song and tune accompaniment and arrangement.

I look forward to reading your input on that thread. (And apologies to the thread proliferation police ;-)

I really don't see the utility of cluttering this forum by creating a thread which does nothing but refer to another thread which is ongoing.

I'm doing it because when I was searching for threads on song accompaniment it took me a long time to actually decide to check the thread entitled "accompanying another musician." Perhaps others interested in song accompaniment might also miss this thread which would be of value to them. I don't intend to refresh this one when it falls off the end, and I hadn't imagined it would accumulate more than its originating post. I have retitled some of my posts to that thread so that future searchers might have an easier time of it than I did, in the meantime, for those scanning the current thread list...

To avoid confusion, you s probably would have done better to start a new thread in the first place--

Sigh. And here I was trying to avoid thread proliferation by continuing the discussion on a thread where the topic was already started... but help people out when the title wasn't optimal.

Can't win, I guess.

P.S. Further discussion on this topic probably belongs on the (very long)Thread Proliferation Control thread, RIGHT?.

Garsh, just meant to toss out a little tiny throwaway thread, and everyone keeps pickin' it up offa the floor.

Coincidentally I have just had a phone call asking me to accompany a
singer TONIGHT on a song I have never heard at the Maidenhead Song competition.I might be able to put some useful info onto this thread after the evening is over.

DD, I'm sorry you are taking heat for a good intention. Don't worry about answering everyone who wants to complain.

Perhaps this is helpful though-- there is a simple approach to the problem you indentified, of making something easier to find if people search. That is to change the subject line of the post in the existing thread-- we do it all the time with Lyric Add's to make a song title pop up visibly in a search. (See the subject line of this post of mine.) That would not help any with the problem of attracting people to an existing discussion, but doing that can be accomplished with a few PMs directed to people who you think have some expertise to share in a given area.
