Subject: Lyr Req: 'Off to Dutch Harbor' From: Jenny Islander Date: 28 Mar 03 - 04:52 PM I'm looking for the rest of the lyrics to a modern Alaskan folksong called (I think) "Off to Dutch Harbor." It has a very singable tune in something like 3/4 time and the bits I remember go something like this: Goodbye to my lady, goodbye to dry ground; I'm off to the place where the crab can be found. Raise your glass high, boys, you're drinkin' on me: I'm off to Dutch Harbor on the cold Bering Sea. We've got a good captain and the crew are all friends; We've been there before and we'll go there again, Five miles from Hell on the waves and the wind-- Give me just one more drink, boys, before we begin! dum dah dah dum dah dah something or 'nother dum dah dah dum dah dah 'nother line here To some other place where we'd much rather be Than here in Dutch Harbor on the cold Bering Sea. dum dah dah dum dah dah more verses here (?) I would also like to know who wrote it. Thanks in advance! J. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Off to Dutch Harbor' From: Jim Dixon Date: 29 Mar 03 - 07:32 PM I found sound samples at Barnes&Noble and at Yahoo! Music, from which I transcribed this: Give me just one more drink, boys, before I begin. They're predicting there're plenty of crab to be found. Not a good pay but it makes my heart pound. The roar of that diesel's been music to me. I'm off to Dutch Harbor on the cold Bering Sea. |
