Subject: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Mar 03 - 06:42 PM Hi, Kevin... I'm at daylia's place and we are listening to your CD. Very nice and very folky. Listened to Larry's song about 911 and now are listening to the 2 versions of "White Snow of the Springtime". Who is the female singer? - LH |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 30 Mar 03 - 06:57 PM That's Áine, keeper of The Mudcat Songbook and mistress of the Song Challenges, out in Gaelic speaking Texas. (And maker of The Spring I was Six, which is the next track on the CD, or rather the next two tracks. Great song.) |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Mar 03 - 07:06 PM Hey! Well, daylia has finished writing the score for Aine's version in C, and will put it on her music program shortly and send it to you, after I show her how to make the file attachment. Aine sings the song great! daylia is a keyboard teacher and a fine music transcriber indeed, but she's an amature on computers at this point. - LH |

Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Mar 03 - 05:26 AM It's very much a home maade effort. What I've been doing is just send them to people who ask for them, and suggesting they make a suitable donation to the Mudcat. If there were a lot of people asking I'd have to think about doing something to cover the basic cost and postage, but otherwise I see that as my own donation to the Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: alanabit Date: 31 Mar 03 - 02:09 PM I can recommend it too. I particularly like "Green Heart of Harlow" and "A Strange Conversation". Fine writing... |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: *daylia* Date: 02 Apr 03 - 10:37 AM The whole CD is a real treat! Thank you so much for sending it Kevin ... And so is the fact that I'm actually learning how to use Finale Notepad. I've got two - very pretty! - lead sheets for both versions of "White Snow of the Springtime" finished - including lyrics and guitar chords - ready to submit to the UN New Songs for Peace project. YES!! :) I've got both sheets saved on Finale Notepad, but I don't know how to make the file link-friendly so I could post them on the Cat, or send them to Kevin via PMs so he can check them over. Could anyone out there help me with this? Thanks so much ... daylia |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 02 Apr 03 - 01:47 PM Ha! I just figured out a "method"! For the new lead sheets for "White Snow of the Springtime", click here. Then click on the song titles. If you have Finale Notepad installed, you should be able to play them back too. Now, for the BIG question - do the links work? And do you Cats like the new transcriptions? (the originals are in the Mudcat Songbook, I think). daylia |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Anglo Date: 02 Apr 03 - 01:58 PM That link takes us to the MSN Network (Groups) home page at http://www.msnusers.com/home Presumably we'd then have to sign up, sign in, then find the individual or group you're listed under, and look for the song titles there. (I don't know my way around these areas). |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: GUEST,*daylia* Date: 02 Apr 03 - 02:08 PM Try this address: http://www.msnusers.com/NewSongsforPeace/documents.msnw?&pps=k The link worked fine a couple minutes ago - ARRRGGHHH! Sorry about that! daylia |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Apr 03 - 02:22 PM Strange - I got as far as the New Songs for Peace page, but when I clicked on "documents", up came the sign-in page for my son's hotmail account instead... |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: GUEST Date: 02 Apr 03 - 02:23 PM is the dreadful disaster on it? |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: *daylia* Date: 02 Apr 03 - 02:29 PM MSN links seem to be pretty unstable! The address for the Groups page I put the files on is NewSongsforPeace@www.msnusers.com WHen you click "Documents", there should be 3 files pop up - the first one is empty, the next 2 have 8KB each - your version and Aine's. Maybe you have to be signed in as a hotmail user to access the groups page? |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Giac Date: 14 Apr 03 - 05:30 PM Got your CD today, Kevin. Gosh, it's wonderful! I'm listening to it the second time through. I'd be hard-pressed to say which is my favorite. Thanks for sending it. Love having the two versions of yours and Aine's songs. I really like your guitar work, too. Mary |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Peter Kasin Date: 14 Apr 03 - 11:29 PM Just got mine in the mail a couple of days ago. Enjoying it, Kevin! Lovely, heartfelt vocals by Aine, too, who guests. Chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 15 Apr 03 - 03:05 AM Hey folks, I love this CD. Kevin has put together a fine, fine collection of songs and Áine's contibutions have just added to the overall brilliance. It's one of my favorite CDs for driving. INobu's Engine 33 is particularly moving, while McGrath's Body In The Bag, Cockasaurus, and A Dreadful Disaster will make you sit up and pay attention. White Snow has particular resonance in the current world situation and The Spring I was Six is very evocative. ALl the best. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: alanabit Date: 15 Apr 03 - 03:49 AM I don't think that The Body in the Bag is Kevin's own song - although it's a goood version. The Marmite song is funny though as is the lovely, whimsical Kippers by Post. |
Subject: RE: Hey, McGrath! Listening to your CD now. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 Apr 03 - 09:23 AM No, "Body in the Bag" has been round a long time before I got hold of it - Charles Heggarty or Charles O'Hegarty wrote it, but I don't know where or when. My version is a bit different from the one in the DT - "arranged and adapted" is the term. (Dodgy memory is another term for it.) Thanks for the warm words! And from some people who've made some of the best CDs in my collection too. |
