HELP!!!!

I've been in Leeds for 4 months and I haven't found any sessions yet. There are a couple of folk clubs but I like the more informal sessions. Anybody know where I can find some before I go insane?

I'm suffering major withdrawl symptons from not playing tunes for 4 months!!

You've got to help me it's an emergency now!!

Emma

Not in Leeds but Huddersfield at "The Slubbers" don't know what night as it is mainly diddly diddly and thus not up my street. You might give the landlord Norman a bell, sorry I cannot be more helpful

I have noticed that certain people an this and other forums are incorectly using the term session to apply to the "play around" or even "sing around" .
Please desist at once.
A session is in instrumental (diddley diddley)event with VERY occasional songs which for the most part must involve attendees participation (sea shanties, Martin said, Jesus on the mainline etc) and most definitely never never "Dublin in the rare auld times".
Sessions are for collective enjoyment of Musicing not the self-indulgent Ego trips of some singers.

All the best PP

There is a session on a Friday evening at the Grove Inn, Holbeck. NOT the folk club in the back room, but in the side room. Gets going around 8.30pm-9pm.

I think there is one at a pub called The Primrose??? (could be wrong) but I don't know what night.

There is an Irish session on Monday night (used to be the pub at Sheepscar junction) but you will need to check.

The staff at Hobgoblin Music will definitely know if you give them a ring.

Cheers
Sarah

Pied Piper, I've been mulling this over, could you please tell when diddly diddly musicians took the monoploy on the use of the word "session" to describe their gatherings.
I trust you got off the horse safely

There are quite a few sessions in Calderdale, only 30 mins by car from Leeds down the motorway. Our (mainly English) session at The Bridge Inn, in the middle of Ripponden, has run for years every Monday from 9.00pm.

Widowmaker,
Pied Piper and I have known each other for many, many years, this is just a little urine extraction exercise. Tongues are firmly wedged within jowls

Go on then, give THIS a try. When you get to one of these clubs, ask someone about a Mag. called Tykes News, a very good investment for Folk in West Yorks.

Regards Brad. :-D

There's a good session on a Thursday(?)at The Lamb, Oxenhope - just out of Keighley and I beleive they used to have something on a Sunday lunchtime at the Melbourne in Bradford. Sorry, I don't know of anything in Leeds anymore.

Thank you all for your help. I actually went to hobgoblin and they told me about the grove, but I could on;y find news of the folk club there in tyke's news. I will give some of them a try when I manage to get an evening off work. I'll give the stag a ring aswell.

Thank you

Emma
