Subject: BS: new catter welcome Beardy!
From: brid widder
Date: 07 Apr 03 - 07:02 PM

He's posted a couple of times and although only officially an adopted son he is well known to some Hull catters ... and an increasing number of Hull publicans!

Yes, he's made himself notorious already with his "Why the fuss when soldiers die" thread. Way to make an entrance, Beardy!

Oh well, welcome anyway.

Cheers,
Michael

If his thinking is typical of the people of Hull, I would even consider changing my travel plans!

Ah go on lads, treat him to a Cyril Tawney gig. He seems to dislike the man, and I can't think why.

Nice way to greet a guy. If you intolerant dicks want a PC circle-jerk, maybe you should find a place with less diversity of opinion.

Anyways, welcome to the Mudcat, Beardy. :)

Its nice to be here & better to be 'notorious' than ignored.

mg. You would have to be invited but then I would not prejudge you without meeting you and anyhow what's to say we havent already met. I have been attending up to 15 folk festials a year for 20 years extending from Jersey to Shetland via Belfast & Tonder.

Banjer. Thank you for acknowledging that unlike a large section of our community I am capable of independent thought. As we are all aware free speech is to be cherished in society and the expression of differing values, beliefs and ideas to expand knowledge is a product of this forum we should celebrate. Incidently I do not hail from Hull nor do I live there so you need make no changes to any travel plans!

Gurney. I appreciate the offer but you would be wasting your money on a ticket. As I have never met Cyril I cannot say whether I dislike him or not but having seen him in concert I do know that I do not like his music, songs or presentation style. Matter of taste I guess.

Lepus Rex. Thank you for the support. However, people are entitled to their prejudices no matter how uninformed they are.

Beardy

Ey up our Beardy. Went to see your favourite Texan singer Stve Earle last Sunday and he was fab !!! He was disapointed you wasn't there.

Brid widder and I were in Whitby for the weekend and dropped into the Sun session in Beverley on our way back so ENJOYED some music rather than listening to Mr Earle.

I just want to say 'welcome beardy', and how much I liked the "light blue touch paper and retire 10 paces" approach to your posting.
S'mazing how predictable some of the replies were.

Alex

How could you possibly enjoy music when I wasn't plating. Shame on you.
By the way Alexis is right the replies were so.... predictable and even a shade moronic.

I noticed that the predicable right wing, "we Americans are the greatest and everyone should just support us because we are never wrong" views were to the fore in the initial posts but the more considered responses appeared later and outnumbered the 'moronic' posts.
Jim - define plating.

Plating is a little used wurd coming from the Erse and is a more common spelling mistake as it should have read playing. You can see I've been reading the Grauniad today. O.K. I know 'We care abot accuracy'. Have you noticed that the latest flu thing is called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. A medical friend of mine said the following last night if it's severe it's already acute and she reckons the Severe was only added to stop the syndrome being called ARSE
