Gill has just phoned to say that the Sloop session in Barton tonight has been cancelled. She has had electricity to the pub CUT OFF!
Aparently - and of course purely by chance - the electricity people checked their wiring and condemned it! It seems we have been playing in a fire hazard all these years and not known it.
God knows what all this means, Gill is doing her best to have the pub open for next week, I'll pass on anything I find out, in the mean time keep all eyes on the Cat for ongoing episodes of
'The Sloop session against the Authorities'!

I just put feelers out in nearby Queens Pub (no cracks from Oaklet or you'll be fatwahed and Tangoed) for possible venue for if Sloop is lost. However, Gee (the landlord) is away sick visiting in the Ca(bugger how many rs?) West Indies and will not return till Fri. week. Mons. seems to be their only slack night. Lounge is long with bare end - lovely. Don't want to leave Sloop if poss after all Gill has been through, and pizzas are good. Problem: how to put Gee on hold whilst persisting with Sloop? Or ditch Sloop? Or run two sessions like box an cocks?
    Anyway Sloop next Tues. unless word to contrary from Bolk in Corner.

Keep it up, JB, you'll get the hang of this typing lark one day. Yes, let's do what we can to support Gill. I don't know how terminal it is being closed for bad electrics, but will keep all posted.
As an alternative, Skippie the bush box man (and fiddle workshop leader!) has standing offer from the 6 Bells in Barrow. A good square bare room, very welcoming landlord. Just another thought, watch this space for news.

heloo, ithink this is a big load of shit, and i think the pel people telled the wire people to go nd look at the sloop wires, i been drinking and working in pubs for loads of years and i neber heard of the electric bored coming to look at the wires, its a big load of shit, they are just trying to make trouble, anyaway, =is any mudcat people an electrishun? or knoes aboutr wires 9in pubs? anyway, = we should go anyway and take candles and torches and drink spirits and coke, and not let them pel bastards win, this is my opimiomn.john

In answer to Bog in the corner :God knows, but I have an idea that Sloop owner is pulling fast one. The electrics have been dodgy at the Sloop some time and it cost us, in some other club, several hundred £s to put electrics right and get an electrics cert. for insurance purposes. Before, our Sec. had been economical with truth and we got away with it. I reckon Sloop is near termination, but as Ragwort and smallpiper says, we must support it till the end.
