Apart from a very nice selection of traditional tunes, most of the music and lyrics are originals by Ian. Lots of variety here. Excellent musicianship by the Dawnbreakers (Kate Murphy, Brian Pickell, Geof Somers, David Zdriluk, Anne Lederman, and Ian, of course.)

Port Dover? I thought he was the curator in Perth (which a native-born Perthian once told me was "the illegitimacy capitol of Ontario".) Oh, well ... I guess Ian gets around.

"Scotland, Ontario" ... that's a very funny town name. I hadn't heard it before. Appropriate though, for as Spirit of the West once wrote, here in Canada, "there's another oatmeal savage everytime you turn around" (half my family included). We've got every other Scots placename around here, why not the country itself.

If you ever get to Port Dover, check out the museum there. Ian is the curator. Just don't go on Friday the Thirteenth. Also, Ian often drops into weekly Friday night jams at Harry's Place in Scotland, Ontario.

Perhaps I'll get brave and e-mail Ian Davies as you suggest. Um... what exactly is his connection to Ian Bell?

I'd started by searching out the Dawn Breakers, a group Ian has been involved with for a long time, with banjo player Kate Murphy.'

The first time I heard Ian he was marching in with bagpipes in a kilt at the Songs of Sail Festival at Penetangueshene. That was many years ago. He's a good musician, and a great storyteller!

I really enjoy folk historian/songwriter Ian Bell's contributions to the early morning weekend show "Fresh Air" on CBC radio.

His website lists several recordings he has made, but doesn't say where they can be purchased. HMV has no listings for him.

Does anyone know where I can purchase some of his recordings?
