Subject: RE: Folk music in Rickmansworth, UK, (16/4). From: Piers Date: 17 Apr 03 - 03:29 AM Many thanks to all those who came last night, especially Graham Robins, our main guest, and for bringing a truckload of his fans along. After 43 years on the road in rock bands he ought to be good and he was, very powerful voice but very well controlled. He performed all his own material plus a Bob Dylan and a Donovan song. His songs were well written, in my opinion, and very influenced by blues/soul but went down really well in our small folk club. A nice couple of songs from Martin Dent and some performance poetry and song from Annette for floorspots a high quality night as usual. Marlon enjoyed himself to the full as usual, but didn't embarrass me too much, but yes he does need a good spanking. All in all a good evening. Cheers Piers |

Subject: RE: Folk music in Rickmansworth, UK, (16/4). From: GUEST,Piers Date: 15 Apr 03 - 12:54 PM Oh, I will have no doubts about that. It sounds really cool if you flatten the second and sixth notes and sharpen the third notes of the scale that it is in (dorian I believe) My good friend Marlon may be coming, I'm off to buy him a birthday pint now. Subject: RE: Folk music in Rickmansworth, UK, (16/4). From: My guru always said Date: 15 Apr 03 - 08:59 AM As far as I'm concerned the key is a moveable feast - it's the rythym that counts - what was it - '3/4, 4/4' or something? And it's either 'Rant across the River' or 'Humming around the Arndale' - you can't have your cake & eat it my lad!!! Integrity? Just enjoy it - I did.... |
Subject: RE: Folk music in Rickmansworth, UK, (16/4). From: Piers Date: 15 Apr 03 - 08:00 AM I hope you don't mind if I play it in a different key, to what it was originally intended, but otherwise I intend to respect its integrity. Piers |

Subject: RE: Folk music in Rickmansworth, UK, (16/4). From: Piers Date: 15 Apr 03 - 03:28 AM Rant around the Arndale, possibly, in a set with Song of the Chanter. I think it's only fair to give the regulars something a bit different tomorrow. Cheers Piers |
