Subject: Folklore: Good on you, Art Thieme! From: Walking Eagle Date: 13 Apr 03 - 05:01 PM Found this little tidbit in Sing Out the other day. "Art Thieme was honored at this past summer's Woodstock Folkfestival as the recipient of its first Lifetime Achievement Award. The "King of the 9-String Guitar," Art was a staple on the folk scene for nearly four decades and a regular performer at the festival. From traditional folk songs and cowboy songs to humorous stories and dreadful puns, Art was a fantastic performer and important part of the folk music community. Congrats, Art." What is this 'was' business? Anywho, good on you, Art! |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Good on you, Art Thieme! From: Art Thieme Date: 13 Apr 03 - 08:55 PM W.E. Thanks for all your very kind words. I appreciated that mention in Sing Out! Mark Moss and all of those folks are grand people. I'm honored to have them take note. Lately MS has me only able to pick up the banjo about twice a week for fifteen or so minutes to a session--open-G tuning---nothing I'd ever want anyone to have to pay to hear. But I'm happy to say my two albums for Folk Legacy are now available from them on CD for the first time. Keep picking, and thanks again. Art |

Subject: RE: Good on you, Art Thieme! From: Walking Eagle Date: 13 Apr 03 - 11:44 PM Some people pick up an instrument twice a week for 15 or so minutes and think they know it all. I have a feeling Art, that you can do more in those precious 30 minutes than any three people could do in a year. I know what handicaps are like, I deal with one every day too. Our music playing is very percious to us. Keep your head up and the humor dry! |

Subject: RE: Good on you, Art Thieme! From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 14 Apr 03 - 03:10 PM Let me tell you my opinion on Art Thieme. We have only twice, the first time being in 1982, and the next perhaps 10 years later, I can't remember exactly. So, twice in twenty years. Yet, through e-mail, tape and letter exchange, and the Mudcat, I feel as though we are lifelong friends. Art exemplifies everything that I want a singer of folk songs to be. He also exemplifies every thing I think a human being should be. One day Elaine and I (she loves him too) hope to get to Illinois to visit Art and Carol and thank them in person for the gifts of music and friendship. For now I'll just send thoughts via Mudcat. But watch out you Thieme's, we'll be knocking on your door one of these days. Burl |
