Subject: RE: Animals Came in Two by Two From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Aug 98 - 03:19 AM Hmmm. It's in the PC version of the Digital Tradition database, but I can't find it here online. Here's the song: ONE MORE RIVER Old Noah once he build the ark, There's one more river to cross, And patched it up with hickory bark, There's one more river to cross, CHORUS: One more river, There's one more river to cross, The database is working now. Subject: RE: Animals Came in Two by Two From: Mark Clark Date: 31 Jul 98 - 05:55 PM I haven't thought of that song for nearly 50 years. We had to learn it in grammer school. I think you hit it pretty close. I doubt I can remember it all but it started... Old Noah built himself an ark, One more river to cross, He built it out of hickory bark, One more river to cross. One more river,The animals came two by two... The elephant, the kangaroo... The animals came three by three... The _________ the chimpanzee... ... and so on. I think the counting stopped at ten. Also, I don't think the verses were always pairs of animal names. I think they included funny things the animals were doing (e.g., ...four by four...the lion's tail got caught in the door...). Sorry I can't remember it any better than that. The good news is that you can make your own verses or have the children in your audience make them as you sing and they'll be every bit as good as the ones we learned long ago, probably better. Good luck, - Mark |
Subject: Animals Came in Two by Two From: Kiwi Carlisle carlisle@wuchem.wustl.edu Date: 31 Jul 98 - 10:22 AM The database seems to be down today, alas, so I can't search for the song I'm hunting! Does anyone have the words to the old song variously known as "One More River", "Vive le Compagnie" and "The Animals Came in Two By Two"? It starts "The animals came in two by two Vive le compagnie! The elephant with the kangaroo Vive le compagnie! One more river, and that's the river of Jordan One more river, there's one more river to cross." Anybody know it?
