Well i am staying in the Banbury area for a while and can i find any session......No!

Looked on sites for a session last night, Sunday, there wasn't anything i could find, so come on any Mudcatters that are in the area perhaps you can let me know what is out there, if anything. If not suppose it will give me more time to practice my new fiddle ;^))

I do know that area a bit but not sessiuns...there are at least a couple of pubs in Oxford that have live music though and at least one of them has folkier stuff...I will try to remember the name of it. I think it is in the area of the Magdalene bookshop...Banbury's pubs seem mostly for footballers sadly, or play disco music. Does that place with the Cromwell room have live music?
There's a nice traditional pub nearby in Deddington; try that?

good luck! I love that area. There must be a sessiun happening somewhere...

By the way, this isn't BS!! This is most certainly music-related!

You might make enquires about Cropredy, I don't know of any sessions other than the August bash, but it's close to Banbury, try 'phoning the pub there.

There is a session at The Bell Inn, Adderbury (3 miles south of Banbury) every Monday -
mostly trad British folk music though a few contemporay singers there too(We are a very friendly lot)
This Saturday there will be a good session there...........
Its the annual "Morris do" (Morris dancing all day) but the session will probably feature all types of music and all the village pubs are open all day.

Hi Rock Chick

Tonight (and each second and fourth Tuesday) at the Butchers Arms at Balscote (about 3 miles to the west of Banbury) - a collection of 6 to 10 very friendly learning and improving musicians and good Hook Norton ale. Cannot make it tonight but will probably be there in a fortnight's time.

Tomorrow night, ie St George's Day, at the George Hotel, Brailes (about 6 miles to the west of Banbury) - a feast of tradition: morris dancing outside St Geroges Church at 7.30 pm by the Adderbury Village and Ilmington Morris Men, at 9 pm ish the Shakespeare Mummers doing a St George and Dragons Play in the pub and then a music and singing session - finishing late! And the full range of Hook Norton beers, including the bitter at 1 guinea (£1.05) a pint! See you there?

"Come fill up your glasses and let us be merry ...!"
Alan

The website for the Ride a Cock Horse Club at the Mill in Banbury has been updated with the new programme http://www.rideacockhorse.co.uk.

A bit in the future but Derek Droscher is organising a session during the day of the Saturday of the Banbury Hobby Horse Festival (5 and 6 July). Venue to be confirmed. In the past years there has also been good sessions (musicians and singers) in the Bell at Adderbury on the Friday and Saturday evenings of the Hobby Horse Festival.

The Hobby Horse Festival is great fun. More information at the following http://www.hobbyhorsefestival.co.uk/ and http://hobbyhorsefest.has.it/
