I don't have lyrics though....

There is a David Olney composition by this title. It is on his 'Eye of the Storm' album - no lyric sheet though, and it is not among the lyrics at his web site. It begins:

With every golden curl in place
She's as fine as Queen Anne's lace
And no one could ever fault the way she looks tonight

If this is the one you want, I will transcribe it for you later if no one else can readily supply.

Here you go, Mary:

QUEEN ANNE'S LACE
(David Olney)

With every golden curl in place
She's as fine as Queen Anne's lace
But no one could ever fault the way she looks tonight
And the man standing by her side
Shows her off with such eager pride
Seems since I saw her last she's done all right

She could never place me in her mind
For me the years have not been kind
She'd never see the boy she knew and the man I've grown to be
From her station and her place
She'd never recognise my face
I have fallen like a wind-blown leaf from her memory

For she's traded all her pain
For bright lights and chilled champagne
And I'm sure her new-found friends all think they know just where she's been
Yes, they think they know her well
Ah, the stories I could tell
For she's as fine as Queen Anne's lace, but I knew her when

Now it's hard to believe, I know
But she once loved me long ago
And I suppose I should be hurtin', just to see her once again
Ah, but now that she's grown so proud
I wouldn't want her anyhow
For she as fine as Queen Anne's lace, but I knew her when

For she's traded all her pain
For bright lights and chilled champagne
And I'm sure her new-found friends all think they know just where she's been
Yes, they think they know her well
Ah, the stories I could tell
For she's as fine as Queen Anne's lace, but I knew her when
Yeah, she's as fine as Queen Anne's lace, but I knew her when

How extraordinary. I had just typed 'Queen Anne's Lace' into the search bar ...
I only know the version from the Little Grey Rabbit books, which I used to sing to my daughter to a made-up tune, and which still comes to mind in the spring, when that blossom fills the hedgebanks.

Queen Anne's lace, Queen Anne's lace,
You'll find it growing all over the place
Queen Anne's lace, Queen Anne's lace,
You'll find it growing all over the place
She made it green, she made it white,
She made it of sunshine and flowers and light,
Queen Anne's lace, Queen Anne's lace,
You'll find it growing all over the place

Not at all bluegrass

In my opinion, the song by David Olney belongs in that great wastebasket in the sky - oozing jealousy towards a woman who has done better in life than the singer has. And dropping smarmy hints.

I wonder is the author realizes that Queen Anne's Lace is a raggedy weed that blisters your skin if you touch it when it's wet.

Helen, thanks for the charming children's song. As a child, I noticed Queen Anne's lace, with its single, tiny flower of purple in the center. People used to put it in water with food coloring in it and dye the flowers.
