Subject: Celtic fiddle teachers/books in Germany From: Marion Date: 22 Apr 03 - 02:33 PM Hello all. When I was busking in Bonn, a girl approached me who was a big fan of Leahy (Canadian Celtish band) and wanted to know where to get lessons or sheet music for that kind of music. I took her email and said I'd get back to her. Does anyone have any leads I could pass on? Even if you know a good music book store or teacher that aren't near Bonn, it might be useful, because she could ask them for more local contacts. Thanks, Marion |

Subject: RE: Celtic fiddle teachers/books in Germany From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 05 May 03 - 05:30 PM Leahy's music is a fusion of Cape Breton and Irish and Ottawa Valley styles. If you type Cape Breton fiddle into a good search engine you should get a ton of stuff. |

Subject: RE: Celtic fiddle teachers/books in Germany From: Letty Date: 06 May 03 - 07:30 AM She could try and mail order sheet music from this company in Berlin. They stock a lot of folk music, and they can order abroad as well (they're the German distributors for Mel Bay books, for example). As for teachers: I've had the same problem here in Bochum. Thought I'd found a teacher, because he did say he would like to teach me folk music, but he then cunningly switched to teaching classical music after a few weeks only(after the proof time). Needless to say, I left him. All I can say is: ask around! Put up a notice in Irish pubs and at the university campus in Bonn (most violin teachers who like teaching folk/blues/other non-classical styles are a bit younger, strangely enough). |
