Those of you having read the threads to Coward of the County jump this preamble.
For those of you who haven't, BSeed talking about anti Vietnam songs reminded my of one I heard donkey's years ago. I can't remember who did it, though fish sticks in the decaying grey cells. The chorus went something like the following:-
And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for
I don't give a damn, about Vietnam
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates
Don't you fret, dont you cry, whoppee we're all gonna die
I know I should know this one so someone will help. Also it kind of leads into anti war songs in general. With the exception of Green Fields/ No Man's Land that has an entire web site devoted to it.
Cheers
Mick

How about Country Joe (McDonald) and the Fish ?

This song was a highlight at Woodstock (old Max Yasger's

place) a few years ago.

Nick,

Oh yes, you wanted guitar chords as well as the lyrics. Here they are in the key of G, although it starts with a D chord.

(D)Come on all of you big strong men,
(G)Uncle Sam needs your help again.
(G)He's got himself in a terrible jam,
(G)Way down yonder in Vietnam,
So (E)put down your books and (A)pick up a gun,
We're (D)gonna have a whole lot of (G)fun.

And its (A7) one, two, (D) three what are we (G)fighting for?
Don't ask me, I (D)don't give a damn.
Next step is (G) Viet Nam.
And it's (A7)five, six, (D( seven, open up the (G)pearly gates,
There (E) ain't no time to (A)wonder why,
Whoop (D)ie we're all gonna (G)die.

This was a favorite of the troops in Viet Nam.
