Hi Eric.
I finally found time to go looking through my bookshelves. I've found one book containing chords, but cannot find the other which I recall.
The one I cannot find was an old Chord Book for Tenor Banjo, which being written before people started tuning tenor banjo an octave below a mandolin would contain the chords you need.
The one I have found is an excellent multi-purpose chord book compiled by American musician Larry Sandberg. The book is entitled Chords and Tunings for Fretted instruments and contains chords for guitar, dobro, 5-string banjo, mandolin and others. The book covers different tunings for various of the instruments, and is well worth having for that alone. I bought it for some of the 5-string tunings. THe section on Mandolin and Mandocello contains chord shapes with double names - the top one for mandolin tuning and the lower for tenor/mandola/mandocello.
I bought it at one of the music stalls at Whitby Folk Week last Summer, but can't recall whose stall. I expect you could order it via the Music Room at Cleckheaton or Hobgoblin in Leeds.
If you get in touch with me I will be happy to loan it for a couple of weeks some time.

CGDA is also the viola tuning, just a 5th down from violin/mandolin, so transposing should be easy.

Mandolin tuning is like the violin in tuning, GDAE, and likewise the other members of the mandolin family follow their bowed counterparts. The viola is comparable to the mandola, tuned CGDA, and the cello has the mandocello as its plectrum equivalent.

Like the cello, the mandocello is tuned CGDA an octave below the viola/mandola. If you buy a mandolin chord book and transpose the chord names up 5 steps, the chords will finger the same way.

Eric - I expect I have something hidden away, because I have a tenor banjo, and being perverse in nature, I tuned it in PROPER tenor tuning i.e. CDGA.
Not sure what I've got, but definitely something.

Eric,

CGDA is also used for the tenor mandola and is "standard" or "jazz" tuning for tenor banjo.

You could even get away with using a mandolin chord chart as the intervals are the same. All you have to do is transpose - just go up a fifth, e.g. if you want a C, your counting should take you to G. Finger that G chord and it will come out as C in your tuning. For a G, you need to look up D, etc.

Aha ! Mrs Viking (The kind, Thor bless her hairy legs) has just ordered my birthday present!! A Mandocello, (hand built-costsa lotta pence) It will be tuned CGDA. I have to wait until summer for it to be finished, so there is plenty of time.

Can you clever people out there direct me to a chord source, chord directory or have you your own chords for a mandocello. I've tried looking on Mandlin cafe, but obviously haven't got it right.
