The text that sorcha quotes here was written by Czech bluegrasser and scientist Zbynek Bures, a member of the band Relief and other top groups in Czech Republic.

The title added.

"The Lord Will Answer Thee" is on Doyle Lawson's Winding Through Life (with sound clip).

I see by the link, Sorcha, that Doyle Lawson and Qucksilver recorded this. Obviously, the one I learned came from farther back- my being from the dim, musty past and all. But I like Doyle Lawson so I'll check it out.

Wyzzy, I'd like to but looking at the words again I suspect that the tune I'm remembering is actually from a different Reno and Smiley song that says something like "He's coming back to earth again..." I'll just keep on a-checkin'.

Oh, oh, it won't be long now... I suddenly remembered I have that CD and I just now played the song. Blush, blush...

Good gracious a'mighty, Sorcha! You done it. (But how did you do it?)

The nice thing is that seeing the words brought back the tune of the verses back to me. And a w a a a a y I go

Thanks so much.

Subject: Lyr Add:Pray My Brother Pray
From: Sorcha
Date: 27 Apr 03 - 07:38 PM

I once was lost in sin
But the Lord He heard my prayer
I want to fly there up above
And long to see Him there

Then pray, my brother, pray
Pray down on bended knees
For the Lord will hear your humble cry
And surely answer thee

Oh, when you pray to Him
Just kneel down secretly
He'll lead you out of sin's dark world
And reward you righteously

Then pray, my brother, pray
Pray down on bended knees
For the Lord will hear your humble cry
And surely answer thee

If when the way seems dark
Fall on your knees and pray
The Lord who watches over all
Will send a brighter day

Then pray, my brother, pray
Pray down on bended knees
For the Lord will hear your humble cry
And surely answer thee

Now pray, my brother, pray
Pray down on bended knees
For the Lord will hear your humble cry
And surely answer thee
And surely answer thee

(That was easy, got anything else for me to do?)

Like many of us, I love gospel songs and grew up with them in Virginia. I remember many of the songs and still sing and teach them today.

HOWEVER, there is one song that's been bedeviling my mind for months. I don't remember the title. I can remember only the chorus, both the tune and words; I can't 'hear' even a scrap of the verses. I've put every phrase into search engines, I've checked all the artists I can think of that might have recorded it, last night I even called someone in Oregon who I thought might remember it. No luck. So here's to the Cat - you've never let me down yet!

I think it's a Reno and Smiley song; I seem to hear their guitar work in it.

The chorus goes:

"So, pray, my brother, pray
Bow down on bended knee
And the Lord shall hear your humble cry
And surely answer thee."

Many t'anks.
