I'll be in San Antonio TX Monday and Tuesday, May 12-13, staying at one end of the Riverwalk. Any mudcatters in that town? Any place to hear Folk Music (of any type)?
thanks, Chance

There's some good jazz along the river walk. I don;t know the town well enough to know the folk scene, but I don;t think you'll find much. There's a good Irish pub on the River Walk too.

It's a good place to be!

Thanks Catlaughing.
Hey, Jed. Yeah I'll travel the walk. What's the name of the Irish Bar? I was there 5 0r six years ago and caught some local guys that were pretty fair. One Dave Van Ronk clone in a coffee house/book store and some boys doing a far Waylon Jennings thang in a bar.
They tried to talk me into going down to "Spanish Town" (I think that's what they called it) and see the bear and the elephant but I figured I might end up with some bad mescal and my tail caught in a crack. I didn't show.

Chance - As I recall you're not that far away from Austin - keep that in mind. You can always go up there and test drive a few Collings. Have a good time - But come back to Ft Worth sometime.

PS - Try out my two favorite Tex-Mex places while you are there - Pico De Gallo and Mia Charritos next to the market.

Thanks, Allan C. I'll investigate.

Hey Wesley good to hear from you. Yes, I'm looking for an opportunity to come down your way. I'll look for the two spots you mention. cheers chance

If your visit included Thursday you could have also enjoyed a great Irish Trad jam at 'The Brew Moon' on - I think San Pedro - it is a little out of town as best I can remember, but well worth the effort.

These days it seems as if there are so many wannbe Austin type venues all over other Texas musicvilles and SA is no exception, you could be wasting your time not going to Austin. Still Tejano is an excellent alternative to tinseltwangwhine, and the few little dwee dangtwendies like Casbeers(on the Internet) where the SouthTexas sound is loud and clear, provide unexpected excellence and originality - therefore very well worth the effort. None of these venues would be on the RW since that is a tourist zone complete with it's very own Peruvian folk band - yeah me too ... what a Peruvian band???? -

The Alamo - near the RW - would justify a visit to SA without any music, so I am confident that no matter what you end up doing it will be lots of fun.

Musical Archeologists will be pleased to learn the 60's US Popband 'The Monkies' have San Antonio roots as well. You may thank Dr. Bob Zeigler, President of SACollege, for that lil gem (comments in the press)

Now if only I can find that train station so I can finally buy a ticket to Clarkesville.....

hey, sorefingers. Yeah, Austin is pretty close but time is limited since I'm there for work(?!), so I'll just have two evenings. But my travels will most likely include Austin this summer, so I reckon I'll get there in a few months. cheers all. chance
