Subject: RE: INTRO'S FOR MORRIS DANCERS From: GUEST Date: 04 May 03 - 07:06 PM Does this mean that you know the standard ones for these and are looking for something more imaginative? The standard ones are: The Rose - danced around the lamb at the Kirklington Lamb Ale - lamb pies, etc. The Leeds Morris Men normally dance this around the cake and sword bearer. You could always grab a volunteer from the audience - with jokes about virgins etc. Beaux - apes the behaviour of the young men in the city. The swagger, fencing, shooting etc Trunkles - one of the longest dances in the morris, particularly if you do the repeats which most do not. Can talk about marathons, keeping the men away from the ale long enough to sober them up, etc Bean setting - the Brackley dance is much more amenable to the planting, measuring, knocking the dirt off the stick, scaring the crows sort of intro. I suppose you could do something similar for Headington Ascot under Whychwood is always good for a pun about 'Which wood is it under?' We usually dance Green Garters around a volunteer from the audience and finish by lifting her high in the air. More fun if she's blindfold and in a short skirt. Hope this is of some use. |
