"Tears Of St. Ann" sung by Jimmy Osborne (recording) is at The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites (Real Country Page 14).

The spelling varies. Sometime it's "Ann" and sometimes "Anne"; and sometimes "Saint" is spelled out.

Some version or other was recorded by...
Jimmy Osborne as a single in 1949.
Jimmy Osborne on "The Legendary Jimmy Osborne, Volume 2", 1961.
Dick Curless on "Ramblin' Country", 1967.
Dick Curless on the Bear Family 7-CD set "A Tombstone Every Mile."
Dick Nolan on "My Beautiful Island"
Dick Nolan on "My East Coast"
Sean Wilson on "Golden Dreams".
Lloyd Shaffer as a single; date unknown.
Brian Coll on the collection "The Best of Country & Irish", 1994.

Authorship is a problem. According to BMI, under the title "Tears of St. Ann" it is credited to Jimmie (sic) Osborne. Under the title "Tears of Saint Anne" it is credited to Robert Fetters and Harold Potter. Could those actually be 2 different songs? With no sound samples or lyrics to compare, I can't tell.

Here's my transcription of the sound file of Jimmy Osborne at the Record Lady's site:

TEARS OF ST. ANN

A true story, my friend, I'll now tell to you:
A strange thing occurred that soon became news.
The statue of St. Ann from the window was knocked.
In the driveway below, it fell on a rock.

A little girl ran to the statue below,
But when she got there, it was broken, and so
She picked up its head and kissed it so dear.
In the eyes of St. Ann tears did appear.

No one understood how the statue could cry.
The whole world was shocked from the tears in its eyes.
A miracle of God to show this great land
That the sick would be healed by the tears from St. Ann.

The statue was kissed by others who came.
Some didn't believe that the tears fell like rain.
Only a kiss from this little girl
Caused St. Ann to cry and startle the world.

It's rain-soaked, I know. God's changed the rain to tears.
This story shall live throughout many years
For this little girl called both world and man
To believe in the Lord and the tears of St. Ann.

There's a story my friends I'll now tell to you.
A strange thing occured and soon became true.
The statue St- Ann from the window it fell,
On the highway below it fell on a rock.

A little girl ran to the statue below,

In the eyes of St-Ann a tear did appear.

No one understood how the statue could cry,
The whole world was shocked by the tears in its eyes.
And only one kiss from this little girl,
Got the statue to cry and to startle the world.

This strange thing I know God changed into tears,
This story was told throughout many years.
A miracle of God to show this great love,
That the sick may be healed by the tears of St-Ann.

as sung by Mum
