I was actually waiting to see who might swoop in--leaving that gem on the table is tough! Glad to see it is one of the regular irregulars!

Please note the self-restraint, the self-discipline, the temperance, with which I did not snatch the 18,000th post but stopped at 17,999. This left it for another to claim the glory and once again proves my humilty and modesty and how much I shun the spotlight and, after doing the work, leave the fame to others. Yes, I am like the publican standing in the back of the Temple, beating his breast and saying "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner" and not like the Pharisee loudly boasting of how he prays and gives to the poor and lives his life in the fullest compliance to the Law. Or like the humble roadie who insures that The Star's concert proceeds flawlessly.

No, I would not want to snatch the 18,000th post.

Dibs of 666,666!

What hypocritical nonsense, sirrah! I see plainly you have had NO compunction, no qualm, not the slightest twinge of ethical misgiving about boldly snatching post # 18,006. How do you explain yourself? Come, be frank.

*sob* I've been waiting for *ever* so long for post 18,006; and RAPAIRE stole it!

The numbe is so significant, what with the second triad being 3 times the first triad; and the first triad having two zeroes, while the significant digit of the triad is twice three, whereas the second tried is twice nine; and nine is three squared, which is so appropriate for being the seond triad of the number.

WAAAAHHHHHH!

MOM! Rapaire's cheating again!

Whaddya mean "who never posts to MOAB"? Look at sections 2 & 3! Why I was even praised by the founder at one time!

Somehow, this seemed a consummate piece of BS....I was just browsing, and there in the list was 17,999! I went in, expecting any of a dozen suspects to be pouncing as I looked...but NO!

I can resist anything but temptation.

Thank you, one & all...I shall return when you least expect it. Maybe about 36,000...

please carry on...

Yeah, but Bill D. snagged not only 18,000 but 18,009!! And THAT is a number far, far more potent than the 18,006 I got totally and completely unknowingly and by accident.

In fact, I had put in a mental reservation for Amos.

18009 IS pretty special.....(I guess)...but the one I want is 18081, which reads the same backwards, upside down, or reflected in a mirror.

With that, I presume I have shot all to hell my chances of getting it.

As does 18181 and 18881. So, there are numbers for all.

GMTA==God Makes Trophies for Amos. The kind of mental reservations you are speaking of, clearly, is the sort where a small desert area, plagued with drought and poverty, is used to cordon off unfortunate souls. Fortunately I neither make nor occupy such reservations. If I did I would have condemend Rapaire to one years back, but I have shown discipline and compassion and constraint and humility and largesse of spirit.

Amos - when you learn to view the essence below the dull dross revealed to mortal eyes; Uncle Remus and Mr. Miyagi, Obi Wan, Yoda, Bugs; they are all very similar.

I always look for the essence beneath the dross, but all too often I find that there is only dross beneath the dross. In fact, I find that some things are dross clear through. Often these are called "politicians."

Ah, such wisdom, Man of Emms.

By the way, in case you wondered about my sporadic appearance on the 'Cat, the following excerpt from the UK Guardian describing the reorganization of the Government there will explain everything:

"Ed Miliband - David Miliband's younger brother - was promoted to secretary of state for the Cabinet Office and chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster. Andy Burnham, formerly a junior health minister, also takes a seat in cabinet as chief secretary to the Treasury.

And Baroness Ashton replaces Baroness Amos who stepped down yesterday as leader of the Lords."

Now that that's over I may be appearing more regularly here. I prefer to stay regular when possible.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rustic. Glad to see you've returned.

"The first mouse gets the scent, but the second mouse gets the cheese."

It's a reference to mice and mouse traps. The first mouse scents the cheese that the trap is baited with, but is killed by the trap and the second mouse then makes off with the cheese because the first mouse, who scented the cheese, ran in to take it and is now dead because the first mouse sprang the trap, which killed him or her, and that allowed the second mouse to take the cheese bait and eat it safely.

It's one of them Zen colons or whatever they call 'em.

Well thank you, thank you, back at you Rapaire.

I'm a slight confused though. I thought Charlie was talking about a enlightened version or vision of I always look for the essence beneath the dross, but all too often I find that there is only dross beneath the dross. In fact, I find that some things are dross clear through.
But the Zen-cheese/mouse/sniff/ thing works for me too.

My Sensei is a humble person who thinks those things up. He was named long ago after an American confection, Sen-sen, so we call him Sensei Sen-sen. He is full of insights, although he gets a bit "whiff" since he doesn't often bathe. I have often heard someone say, "Ah! I sense sensible Sensei Sen-sen." Sensei will respond with another colon, such as "The redwood grows tall, but poison ivy is everywhere" or "What is the sound of three hands clapping?"

Mom ain't home. Rather, she is home but it nursing one whopper of a...headache. Seems like she and Ringo Red got into a drinking match up at the Legion Hovel and while Mom drank Red under the table, bar, and floor, she really shouldn't have been alternating boilermakers and Purple Jesuses (Jesi?). It did look like she was having fun swinging on the ceiling lamp, though.
