Why do you only tolerate your own fantasies, Amos? ;-) Why not just get in the spirit of things and go along with it?

Dinna fasch thysel', LH...I am a practicing member of the Acidic Curmudgeons of America, with double sash and brass spittoon.

Besides, my fantasies migrate toward the improbable but possible, like bringing a schooner to the Getaway or transiting the Panama Canal, and so on.

"the improbable but possible"

Ah, yes...

Like me and Winona Ryder establishing a close and intimate relationship.

;-)

Or me and William Shatner being good friends and colleagues who call each other up regularly.

Improbable, perhaps. But possible!

Good on ya, lad. A chicken owe some gout, as the French say.

I never heard the French say that!! Even when we whupped them at the Cliffs, they never said "A chicken owe some gout!" They said things like "Au secours" and "Je m'en fous!" and "On m'a bless?!!".

It makes me wince every time you start mangling the noble French language, Amos. ;-)

I am having a terrible time trying to figure out the derivation a G-tensor based on a set of voltages measured at a each coil in a polygonal array of antenna coils, because the guy who wrote the script starts with scalars and translates them into vectors using a uniform locational vector and the scalar voltage, and I just don't see how he gets the three-axis tensor from that. It's some crafty trick but it has me exhausted trying to follow it. I like folk music much better.

I posted something earlier today and now I see it didn't stick. But I can't remember what it was. Can any of you figure what it might have been? Thank you.

:D

ANyway I think the gxx is beginning to make sense as one component of the 9-value matrix of the G tensor...

psychogony (n.)

Originally: the origin of the soul; a treatise dealing with this (obs.).
Later also: = psychogenesis.

Used in a sentence in 1902 by H. Sidgwick:

"It remains to consider how far our study of the nature of mind ? is affected by investigations of its past history, i.e. how far Psychology is dominated by Psychogony."

Stilly, you posted the answer to Amos' problem. I saw it, briefly, and I found it mathematically elegant and quite simple when you understood it.

Unfortunately, last night I had to go to a Trusties meeting at the Legion Hovel and the fumes there drove it completely out of my mind.

I was wondering about themagnetic permeability of free space, which is:

_0=4*10^-7 N/A^2

expressed in newtons per ampere squared (N A^2). IT is a measure of the amount of resistance encountered when forming a magnetic field in a classical vacuum.

The permeability of free space seems much greater when forming a field of BS, or any other high-frequency thought pattern, which (as we have all learned from Mom) transmits through free space with the speed of Is. Is this a function of frequency, or some factor Q? Just askin'.

It's actually a factor of Qr, but only is a perfect vacuum. The less perfect the vacuum the higher the resistance, ζq.

ALL of your senses? All at once? Did you run naked and screaming out of the house shouting "WOOGA WOOGA!"? Or did you huddle in a corner in a fetal position until your senses left you again?

How horrifically frightening!

I've lost a paper in the pile of papers on my desk. Such a sad state of affairs. I must do some filing. Or borrow a trash barrel and dump it all in a box to tote outside and burn it. That sounds awfully tempting.

Do what I do. Take it all off the desk and put it on another flat surface. Clean the dust off the desk. Maybe use some Windex. Then bring the pile of papers back and go through them one by one, separating them into

- stuff not needed ever again
- stuff to be filed away
- stuff still needed

Throw out the first lot. File the second. Get to work on the third.

You'll find stuff you'd forgotten about a long time ago. ;-)

I do this about every 3 or 4 months when I can't bear the mess any longer. Now if I could summon up the nerve to take on the entire room! Or the storage building (shudder).

Dear MOM,
I am so displeased! A very mean lady from a community organization just called to say angry, hurtful things to me about how their organization was not given due consideration or public gratitude in a recent newspaper article regarding a donation they made to the library. She was so mean, and shot personally targeted barbs that I don't feel I deserved! At what point, after a person or organization makes a donation, does that entity's hold on the item relax? I need to go back and read the Memorandum of Understanding again, carefully. But I still don't think it makes any mention of being able to perpetually gum up the gears of our decisions!

Whew! Thanks for letting me vent.

Eiseley

I have two piles in my office. One on the left and one on the right. The path between them is where I walk to my chair.

I can't wait for the day that I can take all of the incorporated business papers and burn the lot. I shutter down several years back and just put it all in one 4door filing cabinet and one large pile under the 8' long dining table that never gets used. Revenue Canada requires records for seven years. I begged them to audit me but they said, "Nahhhh... but we might so keep everything in case we do." They are evil.

Great news!

The National Research Council of Canada Institue for Research in Construction has ceased snailmail of "Construction Innovation" and has moved to an online-only format.

This will save me approximately 1,054,350 cubic mm of storage space per year. This place is really gonna start shaping up. I nearly broke a fingernail typing so fast when I signed up for the cybersubscription.

This is the most exciting Friday night on Leeside Drive in years.

Shane has a low opinion of "liberry" directors. He has had several run-ins with them in the past. He regards them as dictatorial, tight-assed busybodies. He suspects that they think they are better than him, and that's something Shane just can't tolerate.

When I've donated things to libraries there was always the understanding that if the books/items were not suitable to add to the collection or were excess, that they reserved the right to sell the items in their book sale or through other library methods. Is this something you need to add to your Memorandum? Meanwhile, newspapers can be relied upon to skip on facts that you think are important, and they (including me) refuse to allow the party being interviewed to read the article in advance. You have to stress what you hope they'll cover, but if they don't, blame it on the newspaper. That's what

LH and Gnu, perhaps you should join the folks who come and go through the de-clutter threads. There are a core of us who tend to keep them going, but there are also the more dynamic individuals who read the threads, decide to take an action, write to tell us about it, then do it and move on to other threads. We always like to hear about progress (and people live in such interesting houses - the things people have to do to organize can be quite fascinating!)

This morning I was going great guns in the garden when I got a sting, probably from a wasp or hornet, considering how fast it hit and how very very much this sucker smarts. I pulled up my pant leg and saw something fly away fast - it had better or it is dead!

In special relativity we are only allowed to use inertial frames to assign coordinates to events. There are many different types of inertial frames. However, it is convenient to adhere to those with standard coordinates. That is, spatial coordinates which are right-handed rectilinear Cartesians based on a standard unit of length and time-scales based on a standard unit of time. We shall continue to assume that we are employing standard coordinates. However, from now on we shall make no assumptions, unless specifically stated, about the relative configuration of the two sets of spatial axes and the origins of time when dealing with two inertial frames. Thus, the most general transformation between two inertial frames consists of a Lorentz transformation in the standard configuration plus a translation (this includes a translation in time) and a rotation of the coordinate axes.
