I am sorry to tell you that your counting is, well, delusory, frankly.

Counting?

What's that?

CarolC:

This is difficult indeed. I am sorry to tell you that your counting is, well, delusory, frankly. Here on the MOAB we have to sustain the distinction between BS and delusion so as to ensure we can return to reality and not fall over the edge.

You may have missed counting some of the posts along the way, thinking of them as chads, and although this is understandable we have to go with the numbers used by the automated counting mechanism that shows the length of the thread in posts in the index.

According to that standard, I already wopn the 4000th post, and have just received the Golden Narcissus award to prove it....

Sounds like an allusion to Penelope Rutledge at her marriage. I wonder how she's doing with the Spanish boyfriend?

Something actually sent "in the clear" is an unbreakable code, Amos, since there's nothing encrypted.

Besides, it demonstrates to everyone how open and honest those who post here are.

There IS a secret Mudcat Code. Bee-Dubya-Ell can fill you in on it, if he evers sobers up enough. Or Amos could. Or SRS or Rustic. Or LH. Or even me. Here's a hint:

White on white
Lace on satin
Blue velvet ribbons on her bowque...beaukay...bunch of flowers.

I didn't say it was a very GOOD hint.

This is probably one thread that you don't need to read from front to back, but you'll certainly be entertained by it! I must confess I accidentally put in a few bits with some substance a couple of times, but I've gotten over that.

No, Stilly. I didn't. I was told to just jump in anywhere. Ya mean I got to read the whole thing? Man! That'll take all WEEK! OK, then. If I must...They don't pay me all that much here, anyway. ;-)

Saul, did you read this thread? from one end to the other? The easiest way to do that is to click on the thread title. If you come back to your computer in about an hour the whole thing should have loaded. . . we'll see you back here in about a week. . .

Saul,

If you read this thread you will understand that people have laid their lives down trying to find the lost Dakota Ring -- I think Rustic Rebel nearly died in the effort. So let us not treat such honors lightly.

Ah din't say ah liked it, ah just said it was there.

Here's something else I enjoyed. Some of it is navAl. It was sent to me as military humor and I find it rings very true. I kinda like the one about competent people. (If you don't know: GS employees are civilians [GS-14, for example, is a pay grade]; LTCDR is a Navy Lt. Commander, CPT is Captain, etc.) CENTCOM is the US Central Command, EUCOM is the European Command, etc.)
-----------

"USCENTCOM commanders announced today that they intend to maintain their presence in Qatar "until the sun runs out of hydrogen," thus committing the US to the longest duration deployment in human history. When asked how they planned to maintain the presence in Qatar for a projected length of 4 to 5 billion years, planners said "we're working on a plan for that. We don't have one yet, but not having a plan or an intelligent reason to do something has never been much of an impediment for us in the past; we don't foresee it being a big show stopper for us in the future either." Among the options that were being discussed was an innovative program to "interbreed" the deployed personnel. "We are going to actively encourage the military members in Qatar to intermarry and raise children that will replace them in the future. Sure, it may be a little hard on some of our female service members, since there currently are about 8 men for every woman over there, but we expect that to be OBE as the sex ratios will even out in a generation or two. In any case the key to the plan is to make these assignments not only permanent, but inheritable and hereditary. For example, if you currently work the JOC weather desk, so will your children, and their children, and their children, ad infinitum. We like to think of it as job security." CPT CJTF-180)

The "Shatner Bill of Lading". That IS brilliant! Just brilliant!

All future shipments to or from the WSSBA (William Shatner School of BAAAAAD Acting) in beautiful lakeland Orillia must now be accompanied by a Shatner Bill of Lading, as decreed by the Board of Governors.

Thank you, Stilly River Sage! You will shortly be receiving an 8 x 10" glossy colour photo of William Shatner in a thong.

And yes, you are absolutely right. It was like the pot calling the kettle black.

You know what's funny, folks? I started another thread about people who have never posted to (or even looked at) the Mother of All BS Threads...what a wretched and deprived lot of knaves they are!

And as I suspected would happen, a few snotty and pretentious worthies logged in to sneer from their ivory towers and declare haughtily that they would NEVER deign to even open, let alone post to this worthless thread! :-) Oh joy! I knew I could coax them into making a comment or two and revealing the depths of their spiritual emptiness. Reverse psychology is a wonderful technique.

It's like putting a red button on the wall with a little sign by it: Don't Push this Button

Heh!

Thank the Lord I've found a rotten, dirty, gunnysack that's still got some rotten potatoes sticking to the bottom!

I abase myself. I pour ashes upon my head. I will wear the gunnysack to work and for days and days thereafter (that provides the sackcloth and ashes, see?), for one thing because Big Frankie took my pants.

I was in error about the title of McLuhan's book. What is worse, it is on my shelf, and if I had just turned slightly I could have prevented this public confession of my sin. I shall carry a forty pound candle through the streets and kneel before the Library whilst saying a novena, and then carry the candle inside and kneel before the servers whilst saying another novena, all the while wearing said sackcloth and ashes and a chastity belt of rusty barbed wire.

I am truly, truly repentant, and have been shown by Amos the error of my ways. He is correct, and I have to say that it takes a REALLY BIG guy to admit that. Someone who is just chock-full of intellectual honesty and ethical stuff. Someone who believes in the innate goodness of Humanity and the perfectability of Mankind (and Womankind). Someone who is willing and even eager to say, "Amos, you were right and I was in a tiny bit of error."

Amos, you were right and I was in a tiny bit of error. The title of the book IS "The Gutenberg Galaxy," not "The Gutenberg Solar System."
