Where's your magic crayon, beardedbruce? I don't see any invisible writing in your post.

I donno, LH. If I were to ever consider watching a soap opera (which I'm sure I never would, but if I did... ), I think I would want freds and Bubba Bubba (and maybe Bee-dubya-ell) to be the main characters in it.

Fire ants are unpleasant little monsters. I met many of them in Trinidad.

There is something else I must say: Bubba Bubba and Freds must be in a life and death competition to secure the title of "most boring Internet character of all time". I long for the day when they both cease to occupy bandwidth on this forum.

Huntsville Alabama.

The imported fire ants live in mounds. I'm not sure if the native species do or not. At any rate, an exploratory party of one of the native species of fire ants discovered that they like whatever sort of fat is in the (all natural, Bert's Bees) hand salve that I use and they were hanging around in my keyboard (here in my little office/shed). Then some of them discovered the fat in the coffee creamer I use (in my coffee) and they started hanging around in my coffee cup. I thought I had brushed all of them off before taking a sip, but apparently I missed one. I must have gotten it in my mouth when I took a sip, and it stung me on the tongue.

Domestic fire ants are much less aggressive than imported fire ants, and their stings aren't anywhere near as painful, from what I've read. I've wiped my computer desk and keyboard down with some natural insect repellant. It seems to be doing a good job. I can't see any ants right now.

We have learned that the entity known to you as "Bubba Bubba" was not destroyed, but still exists and is moving about. This has been confirmed by ither's xanphthic-phase slime trail as well as by damage reports.

Please let us know if you see himit. Except for that species known to you as "Labrador Retrievers," approach during this phase could be dangerous and/or fatal to the approacher. We do not suggest you do anything rash or hurtful to yourself. Resistance would be futile; himher will be very, very, very hungry and you do not yet have the mathematics necessary to exclamate the entity. Should you fall victim, we will not return you remains to your next of kin, because there will be none to return.

Huntsville, Texas? Where the prison is?

Fire ants, in my experience, live on the ground in mounds of dirt. They usually bite on the extremities (feet and hands) because people step on the mounds or reach too close when gardening. My imagination is agog at the possibilities when considering how you got a fire ant bite on your tongue.

I came home for the weekend. Last weekend I was in Huntsville where I played my accordion with my clothes on. Yesterday I got stung on the tongue by a fire ant. Not the imported kind, the domestic kind. I had to take an antihistamine because my throat started to swell up.

That's a good rhyme, stung on my tongue.

Here's another good one- puke in my toque.

I'll also be in town, so if the painterly arts don't interest you, my "to do" list includes finishing cutting and placing tiles on the floor (several types across several rooms) and tiling the surround in the back bathroom. There is also some wood joinery awaiting attention.

I'll be in town this weekend. If you come by while I'm here, I need lots of help cutting the grass, painting, sponging on, and stuff like that. Feel free to eat whatever I serve you, and that goes for drinks as well. And don't take it amiss if I cuss, because I do that if, for example, I drop a paintbrush on my foot or in some dead leaves.

If you come by when I'm not here, remember that you have twenty seconds to enter the correct 19-digit code into the security system before the house is filled with VX gas. (I used to use flechette rounds, but it damaged the furniture.)

Dear Bubba-Bubba,

I will be out of town for the weekend. If you arrive while I'm gone, you will find five cats on the premises. Please do not eat either of the two black cats. You may eat the white cat with the gray face and tail, the gray cat with stripes, or the gray cat without stripes. Remember, gray = eat, black = don't eat. You may also eat any possums or armadillos you find. They are also gray. And water the garden while you're at it.

The Pinchball Polka

When you play your accordion without any clothes
You play the pinchball polka
When your privates get caught in those old bellows' folds
You play the pinchball polka
When you jump four feet high and you let out a scream
Then your face it turns red, then turns blue, then turns green
You know that there's only one thing it could mean
You're playin' the pinchball polka!

Here's another parody of the same poems. I posted it not to long ago on a different thread where the same thing was discussed:

    "You are old, Robert Dole," said a charming young lad,
    "And by rights you should fade from attention;
    "Yet I see you on TV most nights of the week--
    "How do you stay so famous? pray mention!"

    "In my youth," said the Senator, cracking a grin,
    "I thought deep on political virtues;
    "But that's dull. Those tax-policy meetings wore thin--
    "It's more fun to just make commercials."

    "You're old," said the boy," and it seems quite a reach
    "To imagine you waxing gymnastic;
    "Yet you turned a back somersault there on the beach--
    "What led you to motions so drastic?"

    "In my youth," said Bob Dole, "I drank nothing but Coke,
    "Which rendered my limbs quite inert;
    "But now I drink Pepsi, I prance and I joke,
    "Play hopscotch, blow bubbles, and flirt."

    "You are old, Father Bob, one would scarcely suppose
    "That your dong was as potent as ever;
    "Yet you have fine erections, as everyone knows--
    "What made you so awfully clever?"

    "In my youth," said old Robert, "I ran with the girls,
    "And exhausted my membrum virile;
    "But now, with the help of these versatile pills,
    "There's nothing as firm as my willie."

    "You are old, Father Robert," the young man said,
    "Like Carter, or Ford, or Bush Senior.
    "Unlike them, you shill for considerable bread--
    "Do you think, sir, that you are a wiener?"

    "I have answered three questions, and that is enough,"
    Said Bob Dole, "you're a regular baiter.
    "I've endorsements to do. I've no time for such stuff.
    "You want purity? Interview Nader."

Lewis Carroll wrote a parody of the Robert Southey poem Rapaire posted. Here's a nice presentation from an online library site:

"Repeat `You are old, Father William,'" said the Caterpillar.

Alice folded her hands, and began: --

    You are old, father William

    "You are old, father William," the young man said,
    "And your hair has become very white;
    And yet you incessantly stand on your head
    Do you think, at your age, it is right?

    "In my youth," father William replied to his son,
    "I feared it might injure the brain;
    But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
    Why, I do it again and again."

    "You are old," said the youth, "as I mentioned before,
    And you have grown most uncommonly fat;
    Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door
    Pray what is the reason for that?"

    "In my youth," said the sage, as he shook his grey locks,
    "I kept all my limbs very supple
    By the use of this ointment one shilling a box
    Allow me to sell you a couple?"

    "You are old," said the youth, "and your jaws are too weak
    For anything tougher than suet;
    Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak
    Pray, how did you manage to do it?"

    "In my youth," said his fater, "I took to the law,
    And argued each case with my wife;
    And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw,
    Has lasted the rest of my life."

    "You are old," said the youth, "one would hardly suppose
    That your eye was as steady as ever;
    Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose
    What made you so awfully clever?"

    "I have answered three questions, and that is enough,"
    Said his father. "Don't give yourself airs!
    Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff?
    Be off, or I'll kick you down stairs.

"That is not said right," said the Caterpillar.

   "Not quite right, I'm afraid," said Alice timidly; "some of the words have got altered."

   "It is wrong from beginning to end," said the Caterpillar decidedly, and there was silence for some minutes.

The Old Man's Complaints. And how he gained them

             You are old, Father William, the young man cried,
                  The few locks which are left you are grey;
             You are hale, Father William, a hearty old man,
                  Now tell me the reason I pray.

             In the days of my youth, Father William replied,
                  I remember'd that youth would fly fast,
             And abused not my health and my vigour at first
                  That I never might need them at last.

             You are old, Father William, the young man cried,
                And pleasures with youth pass away,
            And yet you lament not the days that are gone,
                Now tell me the reason I pray.

            In the days of my youth, Father William replied,
                I remember'd that youth could not last;
            I thought of the future whatever I did,
                That I never might grieve for the past.

            You are old, Father William, the young man cried,
                And life must be hastening away;
            You are chearful, and love to converse upon death!
                Now tell me the reason I pray.

            I am chearful, young man, Father William replied,
                Let the cause thy attention engage;
            In the days of my youth I remember'd my God!
                And He hath not forgotten my age.

THE WHITE KNIGHT'S TALE
From "Through the Looking-Glass"

"I'll tell thee everything I can :
---There's little to relate.
I saw an aged, aged man,
---A-sitting on a gate.
'Who are you, aged man ?' I said.
---'And how is it you live ?'
And his answer trickled through my head,
---Like water through a sieve.

"He said, 'I look for butterflies
---That sleep among the wheat:
I make them into mutton-pies,
---And sell them in the street.
I sell them unto men,' he said,
---'Who sail on stormy seas;
And that's the way I get my bread?
---A trifle, if you please.

"But I was thinking of a plan
---To dye one's whiskers green,
And always use so large a fan
---That they could not be seen.
So, having no reply to give
---To what the old man said,
I cried, 'Come, tell me how you live!'
---And thumped him on the head.

"He said, 'I hunt for haddocks' eyes
---Among the heather bright,
And work them into waistcoat-buttons
---In the silent night.
And these I do not sell for gold
---Or coin of silvery shine,
But for a copper halfpenny,
---And that will purchase nine.'

"I heard him then, for I had just
---Completed my design
To keep the Menai bridge from rust
---By boiling it in wine.
I thanked him much for telling me
---The way he got his wealth,
But chiefly for his wish that he
---Might drink my noble health.

"And now, if e'er by chance I put
---My fingers into glue,
Or madly squeeze a right-hand foot
---Into a left-hand shoe,
Or if I drop upon my toe
---A very heavy weight,
I weep for it reminds me so
Of that old man I used to know--

Whose look was mild, whose speech was slow,
Whose hair was whiter than the snow,
Whose face was very like a crow,
With eyes, like cinders, all aglow,
Who seemed distracted with his woe,
Who rocked his body to and fro,
And muttered mumblingly and low,
As if his mouth were full of dough,
Who snorted like a buffalo-
That summer evening long ago,
---A-sitting on a gate."

Supernal Triad, Deity above all essence, knowledge and goodness; Guide of Christians to Divine Wisdom; direct our path to the ultimate summit of your mystical knowledge, most incomprehensible, most luminous and most exalted, where the pure, absolute and immutable mysteries of theology are veiled in the dazzling obscurity of the secret Silence, outshining all brilliance with the intensity of their Darkness, and surcharging our blinded intellects with the utterly impalpable and invisible fairness of glories surpassing all beauty.

Let this be my prayer; but do, dear Timothy, in the diligent exercise of mystical contemplation, leave behind the senses and the operations of the intellect, and all things sensible and intellectual, and all things in the world of being and nonbeing, that you may arise by unknowing towards the union, as far as is attainable, with it that transcends all being and all knowledge. For by the unceasing and absolute renunciation of yourself and of all things you may be borne on high, through pure and entire self-abnegation, into the superessential Radiance of the Divine Darkness.(

But these things are not to be disclosed to the uninitiated, by whom I mean those attached to the objects of human thought, and who believe there is no superessential Reality beyond, and who imagine that by their own understanding they know it that has made Darkness Its secret place. And if the principles of the divine Mysteries are beyond the understanding of these, what is to be said of others still more incapable thereof, who describe the transcendental First Cause of all by characteristics drawn from the lowest order of beings, while they deny that it is in any way above the images which they fashion after various designs; whereas they should affirm that, while it possesses all the positive attributes of the universe (being the Universal Cause) yet, in a more strict sense, it does not possess them, since it transcends them all; wherefore there is no contradiction between the affirmations and the negations, inasmuch as it infinitely precedes all conceptions of deprivation, being beyond all positive and negative distinctions.

The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread. By Their smell can men somtimes know them near, but of Their semblance can no man know, saving only in the features of those They have begotten on mankind; and of those are there many sorts, differing in likeness from man's truest eidolon to that shape without sight or substance which is Them. They walk unseen and foul in lonely places where the Words have been spoken and the Rites howled through at their Seasons. The wind gibbers with Their voices, and the earth mutters with Their consciousness. They bend the forest and crush the city, yet may not forest or city behold the hand that smites. Kadath in the cold waste hath known Them, and what man knows Kadath? The ice desert of the South and the sunken isles of Ocean hold stones where Their seal is engraven, but who hath seen the deep frozen city or the sealed tower long garlanded with seaweed and barnacles? Great Cthulhu is Their cousin, yet can he spy Them only dimly. I! Shub-Niggurath! As a foulness shall ye know Them. Their hand is at your throats, yet ye see Them not; and Their habitation is even one with your guarded threshold. Yog-Sothoth is the key to the gate, whereby the spheres meet. Man rules now where They ruled once; They shall soon rule where man rules now. After summer is winter, and after winter summer. They wait patient and potent, for here shall They reign again.
