I don't post anything for for three days and no one notices!

Alas and alack! I am not missed! Ever and anon none care about a poor old highwayman! Worn out with rowing and my back scarred by the coxswain's lash I shall cast myself into my bunk and hope that I will be drown'd by the tears washing from my ears.

Lo! We sit in the harbor of Savannah, Georgia (the US one, not the one near Russia) waiting to see what Arthur will do, hoping that our Internet collection will continue.

I never thought of fireworks aimed at the tree rats. DAMN!

Cranked my new 'mini-split' heat pump fan to max today. Works a treat! I don't do heat... or cold, for that matter. I am sometimes upset at my ancestors. Why did they stay in a summer fly infested and winter Nor'easter snow infested part of the world? Fuck. Ya'd a think that after a few years they would have said "What the fuck?" Of course, back then, they didn't have internUt and didn't know about Calleeforneeahhh or Texas or New Mexico or wherever. They were just happy to get out from under the oppression of the English Overlords and.... wait... WTF???!!! http://vimeo.com/89610786

Flashback - I clicked on the number instead of the little "d" and thought khandu had come back for a visit today. :)

Fireworks in your neighborhood this week - and probably around here also. They're not legal, but people still shoot them off. Scares one of the dogs a lot so I'll have them all in about dusk.

40C... nope. 40H. We had 32C with high humidity. H = Humidex = 'feel's like'. It's like WC (wind chill factor in cold weather). At present, it's 19C with 92% relative humdiddly so it feels like about 28H.

Did ya see the fireworks last night? I didn't. Fell asleep in my rocker. Spent Canada Day in a lazy way with ale and football... USA lost. >:-( But, the smelt fry up was deeeelish!

I dropped that "40C" into a Google translator - 104o - we haven't even gotten that warm yet down here (though it has happened by now plenty of other years). El Nino later in the year may be affecting some of this now leading up to it.

It is good of you to fill in the gaps left by irresponsible, slipshod journalism, Gnuzer. A civic act of charity, for sure.

About a week ago, we maxed out at 13C with rain and wind...

Warnings

A WARM AND HUMID AIRMASS WILL PERSIST OVER THE MARITIMES ON CANADA DAY RESULTING IN HUMIDEX VALUES REACHING AND POSSIBLY EXCEEDING 40 OVER MOST OF THE PROVINCE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOME COASTAL AREAS.

While extreme heat can put everyone at risk from heat illnesses, health risks are greatest for
- older adults

- people who work in the heat

Yeah. I added that one.

Amos, I've gone to that park a number of times and enjoyed it greatly. What I especially like is that the meadows are large enough that the animals act naturally. I remember watching a Sable chasing around fending off another male from his harem while trying to herd a female to his own domain.

I especially like that animals that are no threat to each other and are compatible in their habits share the same compounds, so you'll see the dik diks, giraffes, sables, and other herbivores in plain view of each other. Kind of like a mini Serengeti.

I also like that visitors flank the rim of the wilderness world so that the animals can - and do - ignore our presence.

I was down there - in the early 90's - when a wildfire raged through part of the park. From my family's back yard we could see smoke and the occasional leaping flames. I don't think there were any casualties.

Not bad, actually. It's not a stateroom or even a county room, but it is quite adequate. Besides, you're supposed to be out on the deck enjoying the dolphins who came to visit us this evening just watching the sunset/sunrise/waves.

The children have stopped playing next door and, I believe, are in for the night. I must go check the pines. No... I shall not take the HD industrial grade shovel. That is kinda cruel as it is hard to wield and not "sure" on contact. It's like the difference between a heavy sabre and a swift epee. I am a Canuck. I have a Sherbrooke hockey stick made from La Belle maple. Now. I have worked construction for nigh 40 years but I have played hockey for longer.

Of course, youse know this is a ruse eh? I would never smack the livin shit out of a rat with a bushy tail with a hockey stick just because I wanna make sure it doesn't get into my attic and stink the place up and fuck up the insulation and chew wires and whatever. That would be cruel.

I'm weeding and digging taters this afternoon.

I have successfully installed an HDTV cable box at Mum's AND got Rogers to activate it in ONE (1!!!) phone call AND her monthly charges have been reduced by $7.31. I won $10 in the lotto last night. I picked three dozen ladybug larvae and put them in the hanging pots. Something bad must be gonna happen soon.

Oh, I almost forgot. I saved a rat with a bushy tail. I was chuckin pine cones from my lawn to the slope on the apartment building property upon which the pine trees are located using a HD long handled shovel I borrowed from a former employer. I heard it skitter up the pine next to me and it sat squirrel-like at shoulder level in the perfect spot. That's when I heard small children next door. I named my new pet "Yer some fuckin lucky rat." I was gonna name him "Hank Aaron."

On 1000 acres of scrubland in the north of San Diego County is a huge wilderness that was once called Wild Animal Park and is now called Safari Park. It is peopled with elephants, dik-diks, zebras, Bengal tigers, wild desert asses, antelopes and hundreds of other kinds of birds and animals. It does breeding for endangered species and research into obscure zoological questions, and makes money by showing the wild animals to the public, much like a zoo. But instead of cages the tigers and the lions and the giraffes and the elephants all roam their own wilderness areas, while the people stroll on protected pathways and tramways. It's a wonderful place, and yesterday we spent the night there in a set of fine study tents set up for paying customers, took long tours of the wilderness by flashlight, and watched the animals come out at night, watched elephants cavort in their water ponds at sunset, as carefree as any wild beast with a full belly could be, watched the prowling Bengals and listened to the mumble of elephants and exostic birds through the small hours of the morning. It was a wonderful night. We were up at five watching the phunks and the lions strolling in the predawn light. Dinner and breakfast was laid on, and they offered drinks and snacks. A lovely way to spend 24 hours, and it felt like a four day vacation. We were delighted by the whole expedition and came home tired by full of fine rsare memories.

That looks like fun, Rap. On the Alaska ferries, most staterooms have bunk beds rather than the more accessible twins. No one spends much time in the rooms but a little comfort doesn't come amiss.

And with fewer than 100 people you'll be riding in style- on one ferry ride I took, there were only 24 people aboard. I felt like a person with my own yacht.

In Juneau, we have small excursion ships that don't have the crowds that people every corner- and they visit islands and coves and shorelines. I have never heard any bad things about them.

I have sometimes said that one day I will purchase a big luxury liner, park it at someplace like San Diego, California and after everyone is aboard, disengage from the ramps and draw the blinds. I will set the sea in gentle motion to give each 'passenger' the authentic experience of ocean travel.

Then I will entertain them royally with glorious food and marvelous service, gambling, live music, magicians, strip shows and whatever else is in current vogue.

At the end of seven (7) days I will give the order to bring up the ramps, open the blinds and the doors and watch the satisfied, satiated clientele troop on shore, smiling with great achievement at the close of another successful adventure.

Entrepreneurs are welcome to incorporate my ideas into their own ventures but remember this is a franchise and thus requires annual royalties. To me.

No, this is the ship I'll be on, Cabin 43A (on the Main Deck). This would be, of course, Port Out Starboard Home, or POSH, accommodations. And before you all think I'm made of money -- we got it on a "book early" twofer price.

Is this one of those cruises when the ship "relocates" to a new season and gives you a great discount for riding basically inside a floating city in which you might or might not ever actually go outside and see that you're at sea?

I'd say no as everyone knows you would never stretch the truth about knives and swords and guns n such. Say, will there be a gator hunt? you did say it was a luxury cruise. I hear fresh gator is deeeelish and I'll bet they have plenty of Kraft Hickory BBQ sauce on board. Why, they may have a variety of flavours. 77p at the Coop this week. Same for the salad dressing. I'll be stocking up fer ribs n such and I can pick some up for anybody that wants some. Let me know how many and what flavours.

Enjoy!

Soon I must leave you. Yes, you shall meet but you shall miss me, there will be one vacant chair, you will hasten to caress me, but I will not be there.

Tomorrow I go to Salt Lake City. Sunday I fly to Jacksonville, FL, where I shall board an assault craft for a Secret Destination somewhere on the East Coast (I'm not at liberty to tell you what country). I can tell you that at one point I shall be at the Naval Facility near Hampton Roads, VA. I'll be doing this without weapons, except perhaps a pocket knife.

I'm taking on this desperate and dangerous mission for MOAB. I know that the rest of you can't take a fifteen day cruise up the East Coast, visiting Savannah, Charleston, St. Simon's Island, Baltimore, New York, and other places so out of the immense generosity I have been given as part of my makeup I am doing it for you. I hope to let you know at least daily how much or how little you're enjoying yourselves. It will be hard work, resting and relaxing, eating excellent food and drinking good wines and beers, but remember that I'm doing it for all of you.

Schweinsteiger!!!

I said his name first. Take a swig. Those are the rules even if the announcer didn't say his name when he touched the ball. Look. If yer gonna play Schweinsteiger!!! ya gotta play by the rules and drink up, damnit!

And NO! I am not playing Dempsey! He gets the ball far too often and he's a quick bugger and I cannot swig like a young man anymore.

Of course, since I play Schweinsteiger!!! by myself, I only have to compete against the Limey announcer so I needn't take but a sip when he beats me to it. He seldom does. Matter of fact, the self-righteous prig gets so many things wrong callin the games that I figure he's on the bottle early every day.

Well done USA!

Holy batshit Batman! I just met The Butterfly Lady! She is cooool! I wondered down to look at my tomatoes and there she was on the apartment building property at the bottom of the grade with her cane, net and jar. Near an hour of conversation during which I showed her my tomatoe leaves with tobacco virus and she showed me all the ladybug worms and pupae she had collected. There is a wealth of ladybugs five feet from my maters! This lass knows her insects! She told me how to control aphids by collecting ladybug worms and larvae and applying them to plants... green and black aphids (didn't know there were black aphids and that they and red ants have a symbiotic relationship that will destroy plants in jig time). So much info! I shall call her The Ladybug Lady from now on, not just 'that lady with the net that catches butterflies'... she was never after butterflies. Or, more properly, Heather. What a gem!

I actually might have a 3D friend! Not a bad looker either (hey... I AM a man so that part is MANdatory). Jet black hair and piercing blue eyes backed up with bug knowledge... what's not to like eh? We even shook hands. I can't wait to see her again. I'll have a bottle ready and we'll stalk Ladybugs together. Seriously, that conversation was the most fun I have had in a long time.

Diet tip # 33.

Intro... I started my diet the day after my Bday of March 7. Damned if I didn't GAIN weight is seesaw fashion. I was 190.4 one day and said to me, "Gary boy... knock that shit off. You don't wanna be 15# over come summer." I plugged away at it and got to 176.4 one day but I hovered at ~ 178-180 for far too long. I have one pair of fat jeans and they are about 30 years old. I often cross my right leg over my left leg (while sitting) such that my right ankle rests lust above my left knee and damned if I didn't fray a hole in my left pant leg. Such 'unkempt deportment' is absolutely unacceptable when accompanying Mum on our daily outings at the grocery stores. I know because she told me so. Three weeks ago, I bit the bullet and paid $26.94 (!) for a new pair of Levis that fit a touch loose... they'll shrink a bit when I wash them and be perfect.

Today, two days after summer solstice, 174.4# and my new jeans do not fit. I have hold them up until I cinch my belt tight and, of course, such is unacceptable unkempt deportment.

Soooo, the tip is, if ya wanna loose weight, but a new pair of fat jeans that will be useless in short order but may be of value in future if ya pig out.

By bedtime, I shall have consumed two large medium ground beef burgers topped with Vidalia onion, tomatoe, dill pickle, Miracle Whip (ketchup instead on #2), and whatever else I can fit into my opened-wide pie hole. NO Kraft cheese slices tho. They ain't food and, more importantly, they are calories I don't need. After all, I AM on a diet eh?. Oh, washed down with several Buds, of course.

So what's new? Yours is dysfunctional. Ours is fucktional. Then again at least you appear to have a Pres that isn't a deranged maniacal monster and a congress that seems to have some common sense. We have a parliament that are truly fucked up and a senate that is on the edge of that. Thanks Dog we have a supreme court that has some common sense... for now. Your supreme court is... you know. All in all, more sad than bad on both sides of the getting more unfriendly border.
